Apparently it helps to digest Protein. I bought some recently at a GNC shop and tried it for the first time last night. I had that stuck feeling after eating some chicken and veggies - not sure what was stuck. They are chewable tabs that taste like papaya. If you like papaya they are OK - personally the smell of papaya has always reminded me of vomit. I chewed one and nothing much happened. Waited , still had lots of pain. Decided to take a mouthfull of Water. About 5minutes later I PB'd (my first). Don't know if the papya helped or not.

Having now experienced a PB I cannot believe how easy some people make it sound. When it was first explained to me it was as though you just burp and the food comes back up - I wish. It was very painful and with all the slime it was almost as bad as normal vomiting.Have to try harder not to let it happen again!

I was told it could take up to 15 minutes for the papaya enzyme to work. I haven't had a fill yet, so I haven't taken any but I do have a bottle I keep with me in my purse. My doc and nutritionist highly suggested it. Repeatedly.

you can buy it at Walmart.

PB is productive burping. From what I understand, it's trying to burp up something that is stuck. I had it once. Felt like I was having a heart attack. Bought the papaya enzyme the next day

I bought the papaya enzyme at GNC, so I would be prepared in the event of a PB experience. So for my first PB experience I grabbed the bottle: dosage was 3 chewable tablets, about 3/4 in in length. Let me tell you, the last thing I wanted to do whenI was in pain, was to chew not 1, but 3 tablets! Fortunately, I was able to PB quickly ( I doubt the papaya enzyme had time to work), and the pain passed. Although I have some tablets in my wallet for emergencies, I don't kno whow how anxious I am to take them again.

Although originally a doubter, I now LOVE the papaya enzymes! Different enzymes aid in the digestion of different things. The "papain" in papaya helps digest Protein (only dead matter; it won't hurt your living tissue) and mine is formulated with Lipase (for fat) and Cellulase (veggie matter/starches) so it covers a broad spectrum.

When I am stuck (which happens rarely now thank God) chewing papaya enzymes can prevent a PB and that's a GOOD thing (they can cause slips, and it's best to avoid them if you can, although you don't have to panic every time you have an incident) I usually just chew 2 of mine (they are "NOW" brand), give it a few minutes, and relief! If it's BAD, I chew 4 (a double dose). It has NEVER taken 15 minutes to work for me. I'm shocked at how quickly it does relieve the pain, but at least for me, relief is almost instantaneous. And it's not in my head, either (LOL)...I quit salivating/sliming, the pain goes away, things relax. AHHHH.

I truly completely prefer the enzyme route to PB ing. It is less painful, it is less traumatic on the old body. I think they are miraculous! :)

I also love the papaya enzymes - life savers. I also have used pineapple juice. It has also been good for stuck episodes. However, it is a bit harder to carry around, so I like the enzymes - don't have to worry about spills.

I tried drinking pinapple juice when I had a stuck episode. It made the pain a lot worse. I guess some things don't work for everyone.

I too tried pineapple juice with no luck. Seems when my band gets irritated it just takes 24 hours or so to stop rejecting everything. Sometimes it seems random. After close to 7 years I am fairly disciplined about Water, Protein, exercise etc. just once in a while. 1/2 a banana. Or a Protein Bar starts a chain reaction Anyone else have random bouts of food rejection?

Does anyone know which papaya enzymes actually taste like papaya or fruit vs mint?

Mint has always upset my stomach.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
