What the heck is wrong with me....

Recommended Posts

I ate my grinded chicken for dinner, then I had a piece of bread (I know better...)even though I'm trying to stay away from carbs. Then I went into a frenzy and ate 15 Ritz crackers. I can't believe I ate them. I haven't even had my first fill and this is what I do? What is wrong with me that I give in so easily to my cravings? This is so sick! I could just cry....

Hey it takes awhile to undo what you've been doing. So at your next meal try harder. Maybe plan ahead what your going to eat and fit in fruit. Then you'll be getting the carbs your craving the healthy way. I haven't been banded yet and I'm trying really hard to start changes now. Good luck and God bless you.

Did something happen beforehand? A fight with your husband or kids? Nervous about bills or work? Maybe just boredom? Waited to long to eat and got overly hungry?

Don't beat yourself up at this point...try to understand why you did it?

definately, don't beat yourself up. You'll be surprised how this process works. I'm 7yrs post banding, I know. I totally had to have chips & gravy when I was pregnant. I did love my carbs. But now, chips are so uninteresting, it's not even funny. Some kind of metamorphasis happens during this process. Also, you eat what you shouldn't & it makes you sick & you then become negative towards it naturally. Don't be your worst enemy & berate yourself. You're doing a good thing & you'll be dancing & laughing your head off living life again to the full in such a short time, it will shock you. Trust me. Head high!!!!!

Girl, there are some days that go well, and other days that our demons rear their ugly heads. Don't dwell on the crackers you ate...it already happened. Focus on ways you might avoid the same kind of temptation in the future.

I was beating myself up for making sugar Cookies last weekend. Stupid mistake. Not only could I not resist the dough, but I couldn't resist the finished product either. I had to do a "reset" starting on Monday. I expect there will be a few of these battles in my future.

k 15 crackers is prolly 200 calories or less...honestly not enough to undo all your hard work. Also I know that if I eat something really high carb, mashed potatoes or something like that...I crave chocolate and other bad goodies after that, so maybe it's just letting yourself get away. And I have to ask....are you at good restriction? Cuz trust me I used to eat Pasta and bread and chips(even months after to being banded shame on me-in limited amounts though so not so bad)...but anyway, I ate those things and after getting a proper fill, they sit so heavy in my stomach and make me feel sooooo gross and in pain that about 90% of my cravings for bad stuff has gone away...

Thanks everyone for your encouraging replies. I've had a better day. Got out of the house and did some shopping and tomorrow will go do some Water aerobics.

I'm not at good restriction as I haven't had my first fill yet. I can't wait.

Hang in there! It is easy to eat still. Once you start getting fills things will change. You will not be able to eat like you had in the past or like you can right now. When you hit a sweet spot you will know it. I did not think it was going to happen, but it did. The body will retrain to the amounts you can eat. The weight will come off and you will see it and want to make the right choices to work with it. Good luck!

blackcherry2002 - how long did it take for you to get the right restriction? I am so frustrated - I was banded April 14, 2009 - and I've only lost 12 pounds! I have had 3 fills and still no real restriction except for regular rolls or bread can't eat that but crackers, chips no problem! I watch what I eat and still the scale doesn't budge. Next week I go for fill #4 - I'm at 6cc's right now - I need to lose 75 pounds. I thought this process would be so much easier and quicker. I'm questioning my decision at this point.

I questioned as well at your point. I had only lost about 30lbs and that was all from the first two weeks after. But I just kept living and the weight seemed to go away...slowly mind you but it did leave. It took me until my 4th or 5th fill to get really good restriction at like 7cc-8cc in a 10cc band. I'm at 8 right now and honestly the last week or two I've been able to eat a LOT and it's hard trying to get myself on the right track again. I've gained almost 5 lbs back. The challenge never goes away, this wasn't the easy choice and it really means having to make the choice to live healthier every single day. And I've never had a problem with bread. Rice and biscuits seem to be the only things that give me any problems and I usually just have to eat slower, so I really have to make sure to stay away from breads because I have no problem getting it down...

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
