Hint for drinking soda..

Recommended Posts

Another Diet Pepsi pop addict here too! Drank it morning, noon, night. (Yes, where I come from -- Michigan -- it's pop, not soda!) I weaned myself off it before I started my pre-op diet in February. The fact that I've been able to stay away from it is something I am probably most proud of, even more so than the weight loss, because it was truly an addiction for me. However, when I made up my mind that I wanted the band more than I wanted my pop, it went really smooth. On occasion I crave one, like today because it is SO hot here in the Detroit area, and I think of that cold feeling in the throat, but I'm not willing to go back to my addiction. I made sure I had Diet Pepsi in the house like others made sure they had cigarettes. I'm glad I have that monkey off my back.

I was never much of a soda drinker before and when I did rarely drink some it was Sprite or Orange soda, not a big fan of the cola and dark sodas, so I figured that not being able to have soda after the surgery would be no big deal. But I don't know if it's being told I can't, knowing I can't or whatever, but now I DESPERATELY want a diet orange Crush. Just like I had no issues with not drinking during meals, but now I really want to drink something while I'm eating! Crazy.

hkitty, I'm the same way! It must be that we know we aren't supposed to have it:confused:

Look, I know I am not supposed to have the soda. The craving was so darn bad it wasnt even funny. And I still have 2/3s of that 20 oz soda left. I only meant to offer the hint I picked up for those who, like myself, who were craving it. However, I am not perfect and I am trying to change a lifetime of bad eating and drinking habits. I expect to fall off of the wagon, cuz thats realistic. I fell, had 3 oz. of flatten soda, which by the way, I am allowed to have OCCASSIONALLY, so long as its diet.

And I am a midwestern also. From NW Iowa. But with hubby in the Navy, I've learned to adapt what I call soda, cuz getting popped asking for a pop got old, lol!!!!!

Not all docs say carbonation is a "forever" off limits thing. So do what your doc says. I'd think if it's flat it's safe, but who knows?

It's not off limits to me now.

Please remember that you're not helping your weight loss journey by drinking soda. Dr's tell you to stay away from it for a good reason. I suggest finding somthing healthy to drink. ............hurting yourself in the long run!!!!

CantB2noty - I hope you didn't think my posts were chastising you for drinking soda, because that definitely wasn't my intention! I know a lot of docs that will allow it, heck mine will allow it. I was just saying that before the band I never craved pop, and now I do and I think it's because I know I'm not allowed to have it right now.

And I still say it's pop lol

I hope this doesn't come off sounding critical, but just think of all the wasted calories you are consuming. I do miss my soda sometimes but I can't imagine slowing down the loss to hold on to bad habits. Just a personal choice. (though I may try this with diet now that you mention it, lol, it may be a way to remember the taste of soda).

Wasted calories? Most diet sodas have very few...even 0 calories. I consume more than that in flavored waters. I was told no carbonation, but silly me tried a couple of days ago. Never again! It hurt too much.

Actually when I first read the post I was thinking of regular soda (not diet). By the end of my post I was thinking getting rid of the carbonation from a diet might be a nice treat. Now I need to get my hands on one. I haven't touched a soda in 6 months.

I found Irn Bru (3 cool points for the first American to know what that is) and it doesn't have much carbonation. It's also $3 a 16oz bottle so it'll be a rare treat for me.

I just open the bottle keep it in the fridge and come back in a few hours.

Irn Bru is pepsi and cokes biggest competition in Scotland. had a friend visit recently. said she liked it as well as her usual pepsi

i was a diet coke a holic before surgery. I have not had any soda since surgery and i honeslty cant believe it lol but the carbonation is the best so I dont want to drink it flat

I have lived in enough states that I have had to learn to call it "pop," "soda," "sodapop," and "coke." LOL Hard to keep straight, depending on who you are visiting.

Anyhow, I was a Diet Coke-aholic and I have given it up. I still crave a good fountain drink. If I were to have a Diet Coke, it would be for the carbonation, not for the flavor necessarily.

****However, if you are into flat drinks, here is the tip I heard: Put it in the BLENDER for 20-30 seconds and voila! Flat coke... or pop... or soda.... or .......

HTH

Hi All,

I live in Australia and here what you call soda's or pop is referred to as "Soft Drink or Cool Drink". That covers basically anything that is carbonated. Then we have "Cordial" which is the flavoured mix that you dilute with Water and is still not fizzy.

Just thought I'd share!

I get banded next Monday...

My friend thought she would "beat" the no cola rules too. She would let it sit until it went flat before drinking. Well, she almost lost her band from doing it. The pouch swelled and was drooping over the band so much that the doctor was ready to remove it. She had to go back on a Clear liquids diet for a few weeks and it got better. Said she learned her lesson.

I was the biggest diet Dr Pepper freak around but I went cold-turkey off of them about 10 days prior to surgery on Aug 11th and so far, I don't miss them.

I worked too long & too hard to get to the surgery date and I am NOT doing anything to mess it up! It's way to important to me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
