October 2009 Surgery Date?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!!!! I was banded on October 27th, 2009, and have only lost about 40 pounds. Although it isnt what I had HOPED, it is something. I am not jazzed, nor am I really disappointed. Afterall, I have not had a single fill yet, nor has my lifestyle changed all that much. I just sit and think about what it will be like when I am able to actually get out and exercise....

So why havent I had a single fill you ask? No, I dont have any Fluid in my band, so there is NO restriction at all. Infact, I can eat foods that I wouldnt be able to eat if I was restricted. I just eat them in moderation. Is that bad? Yes, but at this point in time, I am not worried about it.

You see, my Mom just passed six days before Christmas. Things have been really crazy around my Dad's house. I moved back home for the next couple months, and have been working out of my Dad's house. My Dad owns his own company and the books are really messed up, so I have been working 12 hour days trying to get them in order. No real time to do much of anything....

I had to cancel my fill in December because my Mom was dying. The receptionist gave me a hard time about it too. Canceling my appointment that is, and I cancelled it several days in advance. The next available appointment they had for me at the time was February 11th. So, I am due to get my first fill on February 11th, and I am excited!!

I cant wait to have restriction! I will be moving back home in April so I can start a regular exercising schedule and start to shed these pounds. Like I said, 40 pounds isnt too bad. I am happy so far. BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE ON THEIR JOURNEY!

First off. So sorry about your mom passing. That had to be a very stressful situation. And the fact that you lost 40lbs through all of that is great.

40lbs is a great loss. I was banded on Oct. 23rd and have lost 52lbs. You are not THAT far behind me. We aren't supposed to drop the weight that fast. 1-2 pounds a week is normal. So please don't knock yourself. You are doing wonderful. Especially with what you have been through and not being filled yet.

Hey all....

I was wondering what happened to you guys too...

We were so active in the begining but now no one is posting.

It's been a ride I must admit.

Yes it was a slow start but I guess I'm in my groove now!

I thought I was too tight at one point and considered an unfill of about .2 cc's but changed my mind at the last minute.

I don't bother to weigh myself. I can fit my old clothes and that's all that matters to me. Some things are too big!

I hope I am at my sweet spot because I can only eat a cup of food at a time and no more.

I learned not to eat before bed, or I am miserable spitting up a clear white frothy spit.

I am so surprised my appetitie has been curved.

I love the Lapband!!!

Congratulations on finding your sweet spot. I think I have found it too. I only had 2 fills but I am not hungry and I have been losing well. OK maybe not last week but I had several glasses of wine, not at the same time, but on 1 glass on several nights. Stress is killing me!

Thank you for the words of encouragement. Congrats on your weightloss as well! 52 pounds is a great achievement. Are you still drinking Protein shakes? If so, what kind do you like. I havent found any that taste very good. And how about hairloss......I have been losing some of my hair and have increased the dosage of Biotin to help prevent it. Yikes! Best of luck with the weightloss!!!!

Hi Everyone,

I haven't posted in a while. I got banded on October 16, 2009. I have lost only 17 pounds so far. I didn't have much restriction on the band and fell back due to feeling defeated.

BUT, I'm back on my feet again, just got another fill, and gone back to eating "right". I have also been exercising too with the Wii Fit. What a Godsend that thing is; if you DO NOT like to exercise, then I highly recommend the Wii Fit. It's awesome; like you're in the game while exercising.

Anyhow, sounds like everyone is doing well on their weight loss.

Good luck to all! :rolleyes2:

Try the Wii Active too. It comes with the resistance band and you don't have to use the fitness board if you don't want to. Give you a bit more of a workout than the Wii Fit does.

Hi Wisteria. I am your banding buddy as I was also banded on 16th October 2009 in Belgium! I have had a few setbacks myself and have lost 19 lbs. I had a hiccup over Christmas and it took me a while to get back into it. Had my second fill at end of Jan and now have 5 mls in the band. Good Luck with your band, it is hard work but I am glad I have it! x:thumbup:

Hi Oliverdog , Hi everyone

Haven't been on in a while, thought i'd just give a quick update. I'm still struggling a bit with the band. I was banded first week of October and I have 5.75ml but still feel like I need bit more. I thought I'd bit really disappointed at not losing loads of weight by now but I realise it just takes time. I've been getting my fills with Wendy WLS and have another fill in 2 weeks time. I really think this one will be THE one.

Oliverdog, how've you been and how's your weight loss going. I haven't shifted anything since the op.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Debsxxx

Hi All

Sounds like everyone is doing pretty good - coming up on Spring and I dont know about all of you - but I have some expectations of where my weight and health should be by Summer

I had my surgery on Oct 22nd 2009 and I am down 35 pounds. I was hoping for a little more - but I go for another fill on 3/15 - which will be my third. I have also been getting a little bored with my food selection, so have been searching new ideas for lunch and snacks... anyone have some ideas please share!

Hope to see some good ideas for lunches and Snacks and until then - Have a Healthy Day!

35 pounds is great! That's 1.75 pound per week, which is exactly where you want to be! I would be proud of what you have accomplished.

Band Friendly Recipes has some pretty good recipes. Personally, I LOVE chilli, as long as it's home-made so you know what's in it, it has finely enough chopped veggies, and it's not too liquid. My recipe asks for 2 cups of broth.. I just skip that, and it's a perfect, thick, consistency. Good luck on your journey!

Those recipes look great. I think I am going to start making some of those

Everyones weightloss sounds good. Don't forget not only are you celebrating a weightloss but also remember that it means you are not gaining any weight. Even seeing my scale not moving up makes me happy.

Keep up the good work and maybe lose a few pounds for me while I work through my bump in the road

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
