Does anyone have type one diabetes and thyroid problems and got banded? Does it take you a while to lose weight?

The diabetes should not affect your weightloss and your weightloss should improve your diabetes.

As far as thryoid disease goes as long as you are keeping your thryoid levels under control then there is no reason that it should affect weightloss. My Synthroid actually had to be lowered after losing weight.

I have thyroid and was banded on 06-17-09. Before being banded I had a blood test every quarter because my thyroid really gets out of whack if I am not careful. I was concerned about losing weight after being banded because of thyroid issues and I spoke to my bariatric surgeon about it and my PCP. Both told me it should effect my weight loss as long as I continue to have the blood test and adjust the medication accordingly. I have decided to take the blood test a little more often during the time I am losing the weight due to the fluctuation. I take a compound for my thyroid because the synthroid gave me so many side effects that I could not live with. I use Armour Thyroid and it really works well for me. So far, (fingers crossed) I have had no problems losing weight. Good Luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
