I dont drink a lot but Im young so I still enjoy going out from time to time on the weekends. I know its empty calories! But is anyone drinking? Have you been able to drink beer?

Ya Im in the same boat. I've been slowly working it back in. I had my surgery July 21st. I've been able to do well with wine and switched my regular jack and coke for a vodka cran. I will say my tolerance is much lower now than it was before the surgery so need to take it slow and be careful. I've been staying away from beer and coke because of the carbonation and foam. Not sure what the doc will think of my plan but its not yet caused me any problems.

I drink wine - not as often as before but I do still drink it.probably once maybe twice per week.

I think 2-3 weeks post op is a little early to start drinking because alcohol can impede the healing process and you ARE still healing during that time. Check with your doc.

I can drink beer at almost 1 year out (with my surgeon's ok)...but not everyone can.

I also deal with this as I am young too. I just this weekend tried wine, and vodka cranberry. I found really great crandberry juice called cranergy. It only has 35 calories as apposed to 120 normal cranberry juice has. I seemed to do ok, but I was also a bit nervous to get too drunk since..I'm a barfer lol I wouldn't want to throw up because of alcohol after all of this!

Good luck!

I was banded in May 09. I was off alcohol for 2.5 months around this time - preparation. When I had my first drink (2 glasses of red wine), I was very tipsy (I am an Aussie so I used to drink a lot more before ).

You need to be careful to make sure you have healed well, especially if you are inclined to vomit with too much booze. Booze may catch you unawares if you are now desensitized to alcohol.

My doctor says no booze is best because of the effect of empty calories. He acknowledges this is not for all of us and suggests wine (1 glass per day). I tend to stay with this guideline (plus the occasional dram of single malt scotch).

I just came back from 3 weeks vacation in Canada where I got stuck into the beer with my old buddies (I used to live there for 5 years). I put 4 pounds on, the first gain since May. No more beer for me!!!

Cheers!

Al

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
