Confused

Hi all I have had all my appointments and will be seeing the dr for follow up on all my test results next wk thursday. After that I see the surgeon and schedule my surgery. I am now confused, but I do want the band, but been thinking about gastric a lot lateley I even had a dream about it last night. I really don't want gastric becuase of the higher risks and the re routing of my insides. The physcologist and dietician both mad me a lilttle upset when I saw them they both had there comments saying that I should have the gastric and that the surgeon is going to tell me the same thing and blah blah blah. So now I am just confused and scared now that what if the band doesn't work for me. How did you all know it would work for you if you loved food so much? Another thing with te gastric I have too many friends that has had it and are now gaining there weight back and that's another thing I don't like about gastric as well. I mean was it easy with the band to eat better and diet please someone help me I feel like tearing up a lilttle cause im tired of being fat and I wanna have success. Please give me some advice what should I do?

hi everyone, i had lap band surgery July 29 2009. i am very happy with the results so far (lost 7kg already!!) the diet was a little difficult at first but am now on top of it. my advice to Neesha is that you owe it to yourself to make an informed decision, that is why we go to the people who specialise in whatever our needs are at the time. it does seem rather pointless to go to a doctor/psych/dietician etc and then take no notice of what they are advising. by all means keep asking questions, we all do that, but listen to the people who know. sooo xx:smile:

I had my 1 year post-op appointment today, and my surgeon had some copies of the Obesity Action Coalition's magazine in his waiting room. The first article Choosing the "Right" Weight-loss Surgery Procedure was, in my opinion, one of the most clear-headed, well-stated discussions about the different surgeries and what you should keep in mind when considering one over another. It doesn't promote any one surgery. You can read the article here Choosing the "Right" Weight-loss Surgery Procedure

I think this should be required reading for anyone considering weight-loss surgery.

Thank you for posting the article. I agree with most of it. One of the points he is wrong about concerns the long term studies on sleeve patients. This operation has been done for decades for patients with gastric cancer and has been proven ssuccessful in many long term studies.

Ah, you're good for PLENTY!....But....the Ice Cream is a really nice bonus....:w00t:

Yeah? Do you like me in that Monkey way? :sneaky:

He's also wrong about the weight loss.... sleeve and RnY have similar weight loss stats.

He's also wrong that bypass patients will "very likely" experience dumping. This is a BIG pet peeve of mine. Only about half of bypass patients dump. For some, the threat is enough. But, for others, they try something with sugar and don't dump and they freak out because they were *counting* on dumping to keep them honest. These people end up very upset and unhappy and often don't lose much weight or have regain issues.

It also doesn't cover the DS.

But I completely agree with this:

There is no study that your surgeon can do that will tell him or her what is the “best” operation for you. If you are a good candidate for surgery, then very likely you could do well with ANY weight-loss operation. Ultimately it comes down to you knowing you, and I am convinced that patients are the best decision makers on which operation is right for them. Go with your gut, no pun intended. The operation YOU feel is right for you is very likely the right one for you!

Here is a chart that compares all the surgery types:

Absolutely! In the MONKIEST of ways!

I have these nasty dreams of You and Me and Cheetah in a hot tub at the San Diego Wild Animal Park, sipping on banana Daiquiris and dabbing Banana ICE CREAM into each others mouths…..

YEAH, BABY!!!! (doing my best Austin Powers impression….)

You made me laugh out loud. You have no idea how badly I needed that today.

Monkey holds you in the highest fondest regard but she likes her ice cream frozen and her men to look like Vincent D'Onofrio, or Joaquin Phoenix before the Hip Hop career.

However, we could double date with you and Brad Pitt and GO for ice cream. That would totally work for me.

Ok.

Well, let’s see if we can put this all together.

Here’s what we’ve got:

It’ll be Headhunter, Restless Monkey, BethfromVA, and Cheetah the Chimp, in a Hot Tub at a cheap motel outside Tucson. We’ll need two gallons of frozen ice cream, A half gallon of Banana Daiquiris, 4 pounds of Bananas (for Cheetah) and a Doctor on call to provide Fills for Restless and Beth.

Vincent D’Onofrio and Joaquin Phoenix are unavailable that night, so Richard Simmons will be filling in. No one should actually know the difference.

Brad Pitt would LIKE to be there, but that evening he’ll be accompanying Angelina to a Surgery Center in Monterrey, Mexico, for a Vertical Lipectomey. They will be removing 4 pounds of butt fat that was transplanted into her lips several years ago. Apparently, Angelina recently suffered some massive facial trauma when they were on holiday in Monaco, when they decided to put the top down on the Mercedes Convertible. It was extremely windy that day, and Angelina was severely flogged by her own lips.

Therefore, Brad will not be able to make it.

Anything else we need to add in?

Well, let's list the pro's and cons.

Pro:

HH, Richard Simmons and a monkey

Ice Cream

Good company (Beth)

Cons

No VDO or JP.

Aw hell I'm in.

I never can resist a monkey.

Don't think I haven't noticed, too, that you've managed to invite Beth, Ice cream, Richard Simmons AND a monkey to our secret Tucson Thursday. I'm letting you slide because I just LUV my HH, but I noticed!

Next you'll be telling me you have a Steel Drum Band from Jamaica and a soccer team from Brazil joining in. Sigh. You better bring 2 monkeys.

Don't worry, I'll entertain the chimp.

And now, both I AND the orginal poster are confused.

But highly entertained.
