I am a 29 year old RN and mother of 1

I am currently in the process of approval for a lap band. I have an appointment on October 3rd for my psychological exam and my nutritional evaluation (Both insurance requirements) I originally was planned on gastric bypass, but when i went to my surgeons informational seminar, I changed my mind. He performs both procedures, but the side effects of gb really scare me.

Thanks for this wonderful site!

Welcome!!! Glad you decided to go the banded way. I don't think there's anyone here who hasn't vasolated at one time or another as to which procedure would they prefer. There are times when I wish I had gone through RNY but then again, I come to my senses and know that I made the best choice for me. That's all any of us can do. There is no judgement here as to which surgery is preferred, but the majority of folks here are banded ones.

This is a great support group and lots of friendly advice and experience. If you have a question about something, just ask, there's bound to be someone here who has been through it at one time or another.

Glad to have you aboard, good luck with the approval, you'll be in band-land in no time.

Cindy

Welcome! Nice to meet you! You will find that there are a lot of nurses on this site that chose the band over RNY. I'm one of them! Good luck to you! keep us posted!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
