Gas pain after fill???

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone... I had my first fill today 2 cc's. Since I left the doctors office i've had so much gas pain. At first it landed in my left shoulder area and now its just across my back and abs. Anyone else experience this or am I just crazy???

Well, I don't know if you're crazy, I'd need more data....

But as to the pain; I'd guess you're just "sensitive". (when I say sensitive, I mean your "innards" are easily agitated, I don't mean you are being a baby. Not at all!) Your fill might have irritated your stomach which got your diaphragm riled up and it pressed on your phrenic nerve which got your shoulder to hurting and then across your upper back and your abs got into the mix.

If you still feel in pain today, call your doc. If not, just tell him about it before your next fill and plan on it happening to you. Maybe he can advise a pain med to take before hand to help out...?

LOL... ok, so you got me on the crazy bit! :D

Yes, the pain finally went away... guess the gas moved out. Thank goodness!!! I didn't even have that kind of pain after the surgery! I just hope I dont experience that again.. I wouldnt wish it on anyone.

I will be sure to mention it to the doctor next time I go.

Thanks!

Lynn

Good to know you feel better. Hopefully as you continue to heal it won't happen again. :D

I've got the same. And I've had my band over a year! It doesn't happen every fill, but this time, actually they took a bit out as I was too tight. I had terrible left shoulder pain last evening, and today it started end of day. It not only is an irritation, but the stomach is empty much of the day and fills with gas. But today as well? It slows down when I eat, so now that I'm off the first 24 hours of liquid, I'm trying to eat a bit every couple of hours to help it all calm down.

What scares me is....will this ever stop entirely. When I'm 80- if I need tests or surgery, will I still get this awful awful pain. Makes me wonder if there was something out of whack with my surgery.

My first fill was 2cc and I got the gas pain again full force and I felt like I did the day after surgery........but it was gone in 48 hours. But yep I had the exact same thing...........I thought I was the only one. Second and third fill have been .5 and no problems.........that 2ccs was intense but glad I did it!!

Oh thank goodness I came to the boards!!! I just had my fill one hour ago and you would have thought I just had surgery all over again. I am so glad to know this is normal and won't last. I, too, had 2cc's in. I'm 5 weeks out from surgery now and down 18lbs, so I'm definitely not complaining!!! But I really do hate this "uncomfortable" feeling. And where he was pushing down on my port is very sore. Ugh!!! Oh, wait....that was complaining, wasn't it??:cool2:

Well, I've had the pains after one or two fills, but not all. This time he took a little out cause I was too tight. I think it must be a combo of empty stomach and the sometimes senstivity of having a needle in the port and the aggravation it causes the stomach. I'm a little better today, but I took precautions this morning.Anti gas meds as I woke and throughout the day. Sipped Protein all day all so not too little or too much in my stomach. It started up mid-day and I went home from work and put hot pads on and now it's just there, but not really painful. I'm hoping it starts to wind down. I'm also been on the computer very little today-which also helps for some reason. Anyway, you're all normal....just wish I could make it stop.I don't want to have this when I'm 75!

Best regards,

Yea!!! I'm so glad to know that I haven't completly lost my mind! Thanks for all your replies! I just started back on my "soft foods" today and anxious to see how well the fill works. Just had my Breakfast - cream of wheat. Hoping that will last me through to lunch without feeling hungry. Gas pain is gone thankfully and i'll be sure to let the doctor know about the pain when i go back on 8/18.

Keep up the good work ladies... we're all in this together! :i)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
