Pureed/Mushy foods...

Recommended Posts

How long after surgery did everyone start eating pureed/mushy foods? I'm very curious as I've seen SO many different responses (in other random threads)...

I'm supposed to wait until next wednesday, 7/22, before starting...it's my two week post-op visit...

Just curious...i'm getting hungry and am really starting to consider eating an ounce of cottage cheese:redface:

i wouldn't advance my diet w/out having a conversation w/my surgeon.

your still in healing mode & any extra work on your stomach could jeopardize your band.

not sure your post op diet plan - but Protein drinks / egg drop Soup went a long way till i got to the mushy stage.

hang in there,

I had surgery on monday and my surgeon allready has me on mushies. Ive went real slow with them though. Once a day i have either applesauce or runny mashpotatos. oh and last night i had a small amount of coco wheats yummy:) after all liquids it was WONDERFUL!!

The 15th day I was told I could start mushy food which happens to be today. I found that drinking warm mint tea helped when I was hungry or thought that I needed to eat.Sometimes just getting on here and looking at the success stories made me realize I can do whatever is asked to make this a success. I would try to follow your Doctors advice if possible. There are different kinds of bands and different circumstances that might have caused your Doctor to give you the advice that he did. Good Luck!

As soon as I had my band my Dr said I could have full liquids which included pureed foods if they were liquid enough to suck threw a straw (but not to actually use a straw because thats a no-no). So I could have a blended banana with skim milk YUMMY. This morning I had a handfull of cherrios blended with skim milk ALSO YUMMY! Or I can have blended cream Soups as long as they are really runny when blended. In two weeks I can start mushies which are soft foods that are not pureed or super runny. Then two weeks after that onto reg foods. Im so happy to be off my clear liquid diet!

Follow the directions given to you by your surgeon. The diets are different for a reason. The post op diet is to allow you to heal and surgeons are different...different "touch" if that makes sense. If your doc is an idiot, you shouldn't have let him do your surgery. If he (or she) knows what he's talking about, trust him on this one, too. Think of it as a prescription. Do it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
