normal to be nervous?

Recommended Posts

13 hours until I go in for surgery. starting to have the nerves kick in big time.. not nervous about the decision, im fine with that. Just nervous because it's such a massive change (needed one) and.. never had any sort of major surgery before either.

Anyone else nervous before their surgeries, does it pass once you get to the hospital?

Don't worry. It will all be over in 24 hours. Nerves are a normal part of it. I am 6 days out, and I've forgotten all about that. Just remember why you are doing this and what you have to look forward to. Hang in there.

You will do great. I was really nervous before my surgery. But everything went smooth and it was the easiest recovery I had with surgeries. Good Luck!!

I completely get what you're going through!!! The last time I had surgery was when I was 7 and had my tonsils taken out! I had not even had an IV since then until I had an EGD a month ago. I'm so excited and ready for my band; but, at the same time, I'm getting more and more nervous as my surgery date gets closer. Totally conflicted!!! But, I know this decision to have this surgery is the right one for me. Wishing you well!

My nerves calmed as soon as they hit me up with that wonderful calming dose of something in the IV! But for the next few nights afterwards - I would wake up in the middle of the night with not a full blown panic attack, but I guess it all hit me, that Wow....I really did this....my life will never be the same.... This is by far the biggest commitment I personally have ever made to anything or anyone and the reality set in over those initial post-op days. But now I am full of excitment and when I weighed myself on Sunday I thought "this is the LAST time I will see this number...AND the number is less than surgery day! Woot woot!"

ya know I was scared right up until I went into pre-op and they gave me the relaxing meds.

BUt.. im home now.. my insurance required i stay 24 hours, so I did.

im doing alright.. yeah i feel bloated.. and.. i have some pain.. but it's nothing at all what i thought it would be. It feels like i did 500 crunches in a row sorta thing..

stay strong.. i feel a LOT better now than i did 36 hours ago. It is something that is a tool to let us be healthy.. and im taking the babysteps at the moment.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
