should i get a 2nd fill

Recommended Posts

I have my 2 month post-op appointment on Thurs. I am not sure if i should get a fill or not (this is so confusing). My first fill went great which i recieved on June 15. I had great restricition i would fell full quick but i never got anything stuck or PB or slimed. But over the last week and a half i have kinda lost a little of the restricition i feel like i can eat more. I have lost 10lbs since my last appointment which is great. I kinda fell like i need a fill but i am so scared that i would get to tight. I don't want to PB or get stuff stuck right now i can eat what i want just in smaller potions but i am geting hungrey a lot quicker. Oh the questions that plague the lapbanders mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found that I had great restriction after surgery (my tummy was still swolen) The sign that you need another fill is if you are hungry between meals. Go to your doc and chat with them...let them decide. You might only get a small fill each time you go in.

If you're doing well, losing weight, and not hungry or snacking between meals - you probably don't need a fill.

You can always go back and get a fill if you change your mind in a week.

My bariatric coordinator always recommends a fill after 10lbs. & if you are hungrey after 4 hours & eating 1 cup of food. A small fill should help.

I would say go ahead and get the fill. Clue your doc in on what's going on, though, so he or she can judge how much fill you need without making you too tight.

Good luck, congratulations on the excellent weight loss

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
