Am I just sick or has my band slipped?

Recommended Posts

MissBs - I guess I just had a bug. Odd though that it lasted almost a week. I'm feeling much better now and am going to go ahead with my scheduled fill on Wed. I'm at 8ccs now. I'll be interested how much they put in. Hope this one is the charm.

MissBS, you wrote:

Cypress. My band is "closed for business" until about 2:00 pm. My doctor wants me to have a Protein Shake for Breakfast every day for the rest of my life (well... except for special occasions) and I have that about 10:00 am. No problems with liquids, I like my shakes, and so that works out well for me. Then I have my lunch around 2:00. If I try to eat lunch much before that..... YIKES!! dinner about 7 - this strange schedule works out perfect for me because nights have always been rough for me (food choices), so the later I have dinner the better my night goes. Sure seems like there is a LOT of trial and error before getting into a routine that works for you and your band. It took me awhile anyway. Good luck to you.

Thanks so much for replying, and also thanks to Innw...(that's as far as I'm going with that name). It makes me smile to read what you wrote, about your stomach's schedule, especially because it's just like MY stomach's schedule. It's just like you say: First thing in the morning, and even up until around lunch, my stomach doesn't want anything that used to be solid. Shakes, yeah, just like you say...if it's liquid or it's soft, like ice cream (not that I eat ice cream for breakfast, but you get the idea) then my stomach will usually accept it. But if I try to eat something like a piece of toast or pretty much anything that started out solid, it seems like it just goes down and sits there, and gives me a real uncomfortable feeling that you probably know all about -- probably everybody here does -- like I can either sit there and suffer or I can try to force it back up. Drinking liquids once I've already eaten the solid foods doesn't help, in fact that seems to just sit down there and make the "did I swallow a baseball?" feeling even worse. But yeah, in the morning maybe some warm liquids or something would help, at least I know my stomach is up for that. And just like you say, as the day wears on, things change. Around 1-2, it seems like my stomach can take just about anything. I mean I can eat a normal small meal. Then we're closed again until about 7 or 8, when I can eat a little but not as much as at lunch. I guess a lot of this has to do with the digestion of previous meals maybe? Not sure. All I know is, I'm happy my band is limiting what I can eat because I sure couldn't do it on my own.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
