Plastic Surgery - Who's had it? ...

Recommended Posts

Thank you!

I did lose a few kg before my surgery (I was on Optifast for 2 weeks :dead If I never see another packet of it again, I will die a happy woman)

But I have watched what I have been eating, I never let myself get hungry, drink my Water take my Vitamins (all the usual boring stuff :) )

But I guess, just getting out there, and putting one foot in front of another since the second week of banding has made it for me.

The only time I have missed a walk or a run (my primary exercise is jogging now) is when I sprained my ankle a month ago. And even then, I was walking again after a week, and jogging after 2 (with my GP's blessing)

I always aim for an hours exercise a day. Everyday. That said, If I do miss a day, it is no drama, I always seem to get in 5 days if I am for 7.

And aside from that, I have had fantastic support from my husband. That man has been my rock. He totally changed his way of eating in support (he went on lite and easy, and has lost 20kg) And gets out there with me at least 5 days a week for a walk, or jog.

He has burped me, consoled me when I thought I wasnt losing fast enough, and cried with me when I hit my goals. I could have never done this alone.

And I must say - you are doing so well yourself! Congrats! You are doing an awesome job.

I lost 50 pounds. I had a Tummy Tuck and lost 10 more. I was cut aboue the pubic bone from bedside to bedside and above the belly button.

I didn't have much pain I took 2.5 narcotic pain pills then went to Tylenol. I did take 2 mg. of Valium 4 times a day for a week.

I went back to work in 2 weeks. My physician would not do the breast surgery the same day because of the length of time I would have to be asleep. The tummy tuck took 5.5 hours.

Hi Parvathi,

I had the full abdomnoplasty and also a medial thighplasty 6 weeks ago. I had some delayed healing and I still have an area between my bellybutton and groin that has not completely healed yet. I have to say that I am thrilled with my new flat tummy. Yes, its a huge scar and thats the trade off. I am not sure how I feel about the thighplasty yet. The scars start at about 4 inches above the knee, and do a T around the groin and buttocks. IT was extremely painful and was much worse than the Tummy Tuck. The drainage tubes at the hips are the worst. I had mine a short time (about 7-9 days). On a scale of 1-10, this combo of surgeries was about a 9. The best way to have these surgeries is to do one thing on the top and one thing on the bottom. I had both on the bottom and it was excruciating. I thought I would never feel better. I feel 100% better. The other night, I went for a walk feeling bubbly and enthusiastic and one mile later, I was struggling to get back to my door. It really takes a lot out of you.

Hi Parvathi,

Comparing lap band to Lipo, I would give lap band 1 and lipo 10. I had a lot of brusing from the lipo. It took me about a month to feel better after lipo. The Tummy Tuck was healed up in about 10 days. I would do the tummy tuck again but I would never go thru the lipo.

I had the first of three of my plastic surgeries five weeks ago. The first surgery was a lower body lift (basically, everything from my bra-line to my knees, excluding my inner thighs). As a part of the lower body lift, he also did "agressive liposuction" on my outer thighs. Around Christmas, I will have the upper body done, which will include a breast lift and brachioplasty (arm flab). In the spring, he will lift my inner thighs.

As far as pain goes, it was NOTHING like what I expected. I was on some really good drugs, so I didn't feel much pain at all. And I was completely off ALL pain meds one week post-op. The worst pain, in all honesty, was from sneezing because he stitched my stomach muscles back together. But aside from that, I didn't think it was bad at all, and it's not like a have a high pain tolerance.

My insurance would have covered a Tummy Tuck if I had been able to prove that it was medically necessary. After a couple of appeals, they still didn't feel that I had proven it necessary, so they didn't cover it. In hindsight, though, I'm kind of glad that they didn't. If they had covered it, all I would have had done is a tummy tuck, and I wouldn't have gotten to go to the surgeon of my choice. When they declined me the final time, I decided to go to my first-choice surgeon, since I'd be paying for it anyway, and he chose to do a lot more than just a tummy tuck, and he was much more "agressive" about what he wanted to do than the other surgeon would have been. So far, I'm much happier with the results than I think I would have been with "just" a tummy tuck.

As for doing more than one procedure at a time... I would have loved it if he had done everything at once, but he felt that it was too much for my body to take, which is why he's breaking it down to three procedures. Plus, the way that he explained it, when they do the inner thigh and the outer thigh at the same time, the two kind of work against one another, so you get better results when you do them separately. I keep telling people, "I had my tummy done, and now I have a perfectly flat tummy! Now I just need to get my breasts lifted so that you can SEE that I have a flat tummy!" :)

By the way, the ITCHING has been FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR worse than the pain ever was!

Thank you *everyone* for your openness and honesty! I'll post again after my consultation - if anyone has suggestions of things to ask the surgeon, I'm open to suggestions lol.

Oh .. and if anyone has before/after pics I'd love to see them! :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
