My grocery store has this great salad bar and I make a big salad with dark greens and spinach (I avoid iceberg lettuce) and add onions, shredded carrots, beets, mushrooms, peas, HB egg, a little ham and then when I get home I put it through the slicer of my food processor. I'm not sure it's necessary as I eat salads in restaurants, but I do it as a precaution. This salad lasts for several meals. I use 1T of olive oil, red wine vinegar and seasonings. I love salads and could never give them up.

I thought I would add my 2 cents about salads. I turn everything into a chicken caesar salad. I buy hearts of Romaine (they keep well in those green bags you see advertised), and because I don't particularly like to cook, it is frequently my dinner. Break up Romaine, cut up one hardcooked egg, one boneless skinless chicken breast (I buy them frozen from costco, and grill up a bunch and store them in the fridge), some Parmesan cheese (or Kraft fat free shredded cheese, or fat free Greek Feta for a change of pace), then add light Caesar dressing (many fat free dressings are high in sugar, so the dietician told us to use light), and if I want some crunch, I add some fat free croutons (they crumble and don't get chewy like regular bread). I get lots of Protein, not a lot of fat, and some healthy carbs. You can scale down the chicken if a whole breast is too much, or you can share with family.

If I order out I get either chicken Caesar, or a chef salad, so I know I have my Protein source. Dressing is an issue, but I don't eat out that much, so I ignore the fat and calories, just when eating out. I love the Romano cheese dressing at pizza Hut, and they offer their salad with grilled chicken strips, so once in a while that is my treat. Most of the time I do my own at home.

Thanks all! I was just nervous because I remembered the "raw veggies" thing and I didn't think salad would be a good idea.

I'll try it tomorrow.

Hi there! Just saw Dr Allam this morning. He is a wonderful Dr. Had my Lap Band surgery in February. Good luck!

I didn't know that, Bill. I'm glad you mentioned it. It totally makes sense, too.

Ok, I had the most wonderful dinner. I ate 5 shrimp and a "house salad". I chewed well, ate slowly. No problems so far.

Hello there & thanks! I really like him, he's a good doctor. I drove him crazy after my surgery with all my phonecalls... the first time he saw me he's "You didn't die, right! You'll be ok!" ha ha.

I came to this site because his hampton bariatric site is so small & limited. I like hearing so many different answers and opinions on here.

:P

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
