POST-OP Help! (kinda gross)

Recommended Posts

Ok so I'm on my 3rd day out of surgery and I have some questions.

1.) First and most concerning, my belly button is bleeding! Not like it was a cut, but it's continuously bleeding w/what appears to be puss? I clean it out with a tissue, but it keeps coming back and the blood dries up around the edge of my belly button. Anyone know what this could possibly be? I am going to call my Dr. tomorrow and ask, but if anyone else knows, please let me know ASAP!

2.) I'm not in pain per say but I am seriously uncomfortable because the gas is staying in my tummy and not traveling up to my shoulder like most people say it does. I can't fart it out and Gas X doesn't really seem to do much. Any suggestions? How long does this usually last?

Otherwise my surgery went GREAT and I'll be posting about it very soon :( Once I'm caught up w/everything else, lol.

THANKS GUYS!!!

Definitely talk to your doctor about the seepage.

The gas is very normal. There are two separate issues with gas after surgery. The gas that is pumped into the cavity travels up to the shoulders and causes pain. Gax-X will not do anything to resolve that problem. We also get a lot of intestional pain. The gas would stay in my intestional tract too and taking two Gas-X pills only took the edge off (the strips don't work as well for me, but I chewed the pills) In both cases moving around as much as possible, although painful, does help.

they put the camera in your belly button, I only found this out when I woke up with my belly button glued shut and I was like ummmm why did they do this lol. Mine is not pussing though you should call and ask, you want to make sure it isnt infected.

I think I am feeling the same gas pains you are in your stomach that arent moving. I am passing gas very minimally and I'm just tight and super uncomfortable in my stomach area. I am going to the dr. friday and I am going to ask her about it then.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
