How do you know when you have eaten too much??

Recommended Posts

I was banded on May 19th. I have been doing a pretty good job of following the diet. I know I certainly don't eat as much as I used to, but I feel like I can eat a lot!! I stop myself as I am sooo afraid of throwing up Or PBing. Has anyone had this feeling and if so how do you know or what does it feel like???:wink2:

Thanks for the help!!!

In the beginning the whole process is trial and error. You have to relearn how to eat, how much, what you can eat...

The first few weeks are for just that, learning.

I would measure out a certain amount of food eat it and note how I felt. If I got hungry soon after then I measured more for the next meal. When I got to the point where I was too full, I measured a little less until I finally got the right measurement. Eventually I was able to eye up my plate and no longer needed to measure.

Too full for me is very uncomfortable, bloated feeling and the food is backing up into my esophagus which can feel gaggy or painful. It feels like if you make one false move and the food is going to come back up.

How much do you feel is too much? You probably have not had a fill this early on so of course you will eat more until you get a couple fills and actually start using the band and it could take a couple fills. I don't measure anymore but once restriced I started eating and still eat around 3/4 to 1 cup per meal. I consistently lost weight eating that much.

I haven't had a fill yet, but I KNOW when I have had enough or if I eat too fast..it feels like there is something BIG stuck in my chest!

I have begun to use phrases such as : "Listening to my Band" "My Band is telling me to slow down or stop" AND I DO...cause I have a fear of vomiting with the band...or PB'ing in public or making mad dashes, or pulling plastic bags out of my purse to PB....not very ladylike at all.

"Listen to your band!"

I was banded May 29th. I haven't had my first fill yet either. In fact, I'm still supposed to be on soft foods until Friday.

But I was struggling with hunger and I felt like I was eating too much. I started tracking everything I ate on fitday.com and it was 1200+ calories. I think because it was liquids and soft foods, it was going right through.

Yesterday, I took a different approach. I had scrambled eggs (firmly cooked) for Breakfast, a banana with Peanut Butter for lunch, and then I had grilled chicken (1 drumstick) and mashed potatoes and gravy for dinner. Some of it was soft but I think I got more "firm" foods and it helped completely with the hunger - my intake was 950 calories yesterday, and I was satisfied.

I think we'll all need to work on what/how to eat so that we maximize the pouch and its effects. Plus, of course, getting the right amount of Fluid in the band will help too.

Linda I was banded the same day as you. I am on soft foods till the 26th. But I am having the oppisite problem, mentally I am starving myself and only eating around 400 calories a day. My husband got on me yesterday about starving myself and I am trying to get my calories up to at least 1000 but I find it hard because Im afraid of getting sick with a food that doesn't agree. plus I guess I just want to lose weight but I know starving myself isn't the way to do it. I actually didn't realise I was doing that untill my dh talked to me at lunch time at work yesterday. Now I see that is why I have not lost weight in over a week. i will keep working on it. I guess I should try to talk to a dietician. I was banded in mexico so I will have to find one here in phoenix.

I agree it is a learning process . I got my band on May 15. No fill yet, Lost 6lbs last week and I still have an infected port incision , so no fill. I am learning how much to eat and when to take not another bite or else. Last night I sat down with one chicken strip and a small bowl of kale um. I ate several bites and got that "feeling" in my chest kinda tight, going to vomit and sure enough I did , everything I had eaten. I guess I didn't chew enough or ate too fast. Anyways I was not hungry any more. I am learning I have to slow down and chew chew chew each bite. I made chicken stir fry and ate 2 bites for lunch and got that feeling. I stopped immediately and the feeling subsided so I guess I had enough, and I was full. Lesson learned. I am not so afraid of PBs or vomiting just don't want either one.

You are describing where I was up until saturday, same as you. Made me start questioning if the band even does anything really beside a slight reduction in food volume. Sure if I swallowed wrong it hurt but it seemed like I could eat a lot and the slower I ate the more i could eat. Sound about right??:)

Saturday I got my 3rd fill and NOW...finally..the band is in action.

How do I know when I ate too much? I burp up the differance!!!! there is no posible way for me to eat too much at this point (unless i eat liquid or super soft food bypassing the band).

My point is, once you are dialed in..you will know if you are eating too much.

I was not paying attention of how much I ate today. I did not feel like I ate to much until I stood up from the table. Oh boy, I did not know if I should go do my little lunch walk or run for the bathroom :blushing: . Broke out in a cold swet sp? had lots of gas and gas pains but I did not pb. I made the mistake of not listening to my "little friend".

You are so right...Your body does tell you - stop, you've had enough. It's a wierd feeling. For me, I start burping ever so slightly and the left side of my chest starts to feel tight. THEN I STOP.........So far so good. I haven't pushed it nor do I want to.

Thank you so much! I was beginning to feel like a failure or something was way wrong with me or my band. I can eat as much and just about anything I want. I've had one fill that puts me at 3 1/2 cc in a 10 cc band. I have another fill in July and I can't wait for that restricted feeling.

Dear less of me,

You have to start eating more...the 'less of me' you are going to see is less of your health and less of your hair! You cant possibly be getting enough Protein or nutrition...do this to be healthy!!! That's what the people who love you want much more than for you to be thin!!! Good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
