Sudden restriction 3 weeks after a fill?

Recommended Posts

I've heard folks post about this in the past but just wanted to know how many people have experienced what I'm going through now...

I had my third fill on May 18th, and afterwards felt a LITTLE more restriction than I had been feeling (which was basically none). All of the sudden, about 3 weeks following this fill, I find I can basically eat nothing but water/coffee and pudding!! It's the weirdest thing.

I don't think it's an emergency since I can get down plenty of Water, and I mix the Protein bullet with my water; so I am getting fluids and protein. I can even take my Vitamin pill. But I would not want to stay this way forever!

My plan is to continue with what I'm doing and keep trying to progress my diet slowly. I guess if it doesn't go away after ... how long should I wait?.... I'll have to get an unfill (which I've never had).

Any advice would be welcome, thanks to all!

It could be that your restriction just hit from the fill, or you may have become tighter if you have just had any sudden stress. Any time I have extra stress I have to adjust my eating. If it continues more than a few days, you should call the dr and consider an unfill. Sometimes all you need is a very small amount taken out. If you aren't pbing, you probably aren't causing any damage, but it would be awful to have to resort to eating like that for any extended amount of time. Good luck

I can relate. I always get my TRUE restriction 3 weeks after the fill. My dr makes me wait at least 4 weeks between them because if not... I get too tight.

Hi There!

Wanted to share my experience. I have had my lapband for over a year now. I was getting fills almost every month in the beginning, then I got good restriction and didn't need them for awhile. After losing about 87 pounds, I lost restriction so I started getting fills again. Once again I was on the month to month schedule. Then about 2-3 weeks after my last fill, wham, great restriction. I can't explain it, but I hit my sweet spot. I haven't had to have a fill in about 5 months. Just wanted to let you know that it happens sometimes that way. If you can eat your protien and a proper diet, you are okay, but if you can only eat mushies, I would talk to my doctor.

Last fill was done in April, May I had unfill, thought I was just right, June had to go in thinking unfill again. Too much discomfort having soft foods, some pbing too. Dr. decides to unfill completely, might be a slippage. He stated he didnt think it was too much fill, too much time in between april-june. I hope he is wrong. Did the upper GI, go back tomorrow for results. Keep track on your discomfort, it's not suppose to hurt!!!:bored:

Usually when I get a sudden restriction its about 2-3 days before I get my period. 3 days after period it goes away.....

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
