I was banded on Monday this week (8th June 09) and from the minute I came back from sugery to now, my throat is incredibly sore... which I expected from being intubated...

However, the dangly thing in my throat is completely white now, as is my tongue, and I have the most awful taste in my mouth all day. Have I got some secondary infection perhaps? :)

Other than that, my banding was all a very positive experience, apart from the nausea and wooziness from the anesthetic, I've been fine, and coping great on mushy food. I went onto mushy from liquisised after 2 days cos I was permenantly starving. Now I am full after my 5 spoon fulls of mushy food.:smile2:

If this persists I would call my pcp and get an appt. Maybe strep throat? Remember your immune system is down after surgery.Feel better soon!

Call your doctor, if you are seeing white stuff that looks kind of cottonish sounds like an infection, with a new surgery and band you dont want to let that go, you need to get treated ASAP.

I was banded Tuesday and yah, the sore throat is definitely from the intubation. The whiteness on your tongue and uvula are from being ketonic, most likely....this is when your body is forced to use fat stores to release sugar into the blood stream because you are not taking in much sugar. If you have ever been near an anorexic person, their ketosis is so strong you can smell it coming off them...it makes them smell like they are sick. This should go away as you incorporate more carbs into your diet.

However, if you have trouble swallowing and the soreness isn't going away I'd say you should definitley have a chat with your doc.

After my surgery, I had thrush, which was caused by the antibiotics given during surgery. I had a white throat and tongue. Gross! I called the dr. office and they called in a prescription for me. Gotta warn you though, the liquid medicine was terrible. but it cleared it up in a couple of days.Good Luck!

Hi,

I had the same thing happen to me, my throat hurt for two weeks. I went to the Dr. and they said it was because of the intubation. it was worse than having strep throat...I couldn't even swallow and everything burned going down.

It finally went away, and what a relief, my sore throat was by far worse then the surgery and post lab band pain. It will go away though, be patient.

If it will make you feel better, have your Dr. rule out strep or any other viral or bacteria infection, and then just try an relax suck on halls and and spray with cloreseptic that helped numb it a bit. Also gargle with salt Water and try and eat something that will scratch the back of your throat like toast or dry crackers. This really finally helped me, and it seemed to heal faster after I ate something kind of abrasive. good luck and I hope this helps.

I know the feeling about the sore throat. I just got banded on Wed and my throat has been killing me. I'm gargling with warm salt Water. It's helping.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
