First fill (yay!) But only 2cc?

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill today! The doc wasn't sure if he could do it without an x-ray, but luckily he was able to just stick the needle in and hit my port! I asked him how much he put in, and he said 2cc's. Is this a normal fill level for your first fill? I'm on liquids today, but can eat regular food tomorrow, so hopefully I'll get some restriction tomorrow!

Just curious to see what the average first fill was for everyone!

I just got my first fill today and my doctor said that he was putting 4cc in my band. I was happy and pleased that he was being a bit agressive. I have only lost a total of 8.5# since surgery. I will be going back monthly until I hit the green zone.

I had my surgery Jan. 16, 09 and every fill I get is only 1/2cc, that is it! I go about every 4 - 6 weeks and the doc is very careful about the amount of fills he puts in. I am down 35 pounds.

I had 3cc put in at my first fill, was in the ER later that night unable to swallow even my own saliva, had 1cc taken out and now only get between .25cc to .75cc per fill. It is not the amount of the fill, it is the amount of slowly gained restriction you have. Give it time and you will there.

I agree with Sistasassy. Sneaking up on the restriction is best, I have had my last 3 fills unfilled and today am going for a 4th unfill. Life is not enjoyable when you can't keep regular food down, but want restriction so badly.

My doc routinely puts in 3 cc at the first fill. It took about 3 weeks for it to "kick in" and for me to notice more restriction. At my last fill a week ago I could have had up to 2 cc, but opted for only 0.5. I was doing pretty good, just getting hungry between meals occasionally and one of our kids got married last weekend, so the last thing I wanted was to be too tight.

I'd rather sneak up on my sweet spot. I never want to be too tight. He told me if I felt I needed another fill in 2 weeks to call, so will see what happens. I've noticed even with the 0.5 cc he added I really have to chew more and eat more slowly than before. That is something I'm still working on.

I was banded 5/6/09 with a 14cc band. My Dr is very aggessive with fills and routinely fills halfway the first fill...so that means I will be getting 7cc! She said that only about 1% of people come back to have some unfilled. She believes that waiting months to getting to good restriction is not nessessary and actually discourages people. I dunno we'll see how it works out.

I had first fill today with Realize Band. Surgeon said this band is a bit bigger than Lap Band and since my surgery (4/30/09) he has actually started adding saline to the band during surgery. I received 5cc today and so far so good.

He said to stick with soft foods today and suggested I ease my way back to regular foods towards the end of the week. I am hopeful that this will do the trick. I actually put on 5 lbs since surgery but surgeon told me the goal of the first 8 weeks is to just let the stomach heal. Now that I have a fill, I am to focus on the weight loss.

Hey! I had my first 2 cc fill yesteday too! My doc does 2 at a time. I have an 8 cc band. I am on liquids today and tomorrow then soft foods for 3 days, then working in regular food. I can tell a difference in my ability to swallow already! I took 4 huge gulps of diet green tea this morning and it hurt! I am going to have to learn no more chugging and do slow, small drinks! Bad habits are hard to break!

I go back in the early part of July for my next fill. So far so good.

AND... my fill was PAIN Free! I had heard some horror stories about fills and I had no pain at all! I know everyone is different though!

:ihih:

Had my first fill yesterday. 3cc added. Hurt a little more than I liked but no one ever said it would be easy. I do fill restricion today. Hoping not to have to get another one for a while! I have to drive 3 hours to see my doc so I'll have to be sure when I decide.:ihih:

For what is worth, they did my first and only fill, so far, with the xray. They started with 2, went to 3, decided it was too much, backed it out to 2.25. With the Xray I was able to see how they came to their conclusion. How they do it without the xray, at least at first, I don't know.

Thanks everyone! I am feeling a little restriction now, so that's a good thing! It's not much, but it's something! I go in again at the beginning of July for another fill.

I know they are supposed to gradually fill the band, but I guess I'm just so impatient! I hate having my stomach growl at me!

Interesting! I wonder how many people she has banded. Let us know how that goes for you!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
