it has been a year and a half and I am not losing weight! The doctor will not adjust me anymore because I am having problems with certain foods. I am so overwhelmed with all of this! Is there anyone else out there that this has happened to? Please give me some advice!

that is awesome! Are you ready for this? I have not lost but 3 to 5 lbs!!!!! My doctor informed me the last visit I had with him that apparently I am in the 15% of folks that are unsuccessful with the band. I was so discouraged and still am! I figure what the hell and eat what I want! (what doesn't hurt me) Good thing is I have not gained anything, so that is good. The band is holding me steady but I would still like to know why I am so unsuccessful!

I have to be careful or stay away from bread products and really dry meats and chicken. Just this past weekend I choked on my salad!!!! Maybe not chewing well enough was the problem with that! :(

My band is filled to 5 (I think) maybe 5.5

If I were to guess, I'd say this is why you're not losing.

Do you have any idea how many calories you are eating each day? Are you drinking Water? Are you exercising? How often? There are several websites where you can track all these along with your weightloss. Once you've started keeping track you will see what you need to change.

Don't give up!

I am a year post-op on June 27th - I lost about 18-20 within the first six months then pretty much stopped losing and think I have actually gained - I have an appt in the morning to check to see if I need a fill - I feel tight and definitely feel restriction - can only drink liquids in the morning - a small lunch but at dinner-time sometime can eat as much as I want - I think part of my problem is I do not drink enough Water - almost none even though I drink tea and other unsweetened drinks during the day - I do exercise about 5 days a week so I don't think that is the problem but I think my food choices aren't great - eat things that are easy to go down like mashed potatoes, soft foods. I do not eat a lot of food and I eat less than half of what I used to eat so you would think the weight would be coming off - I only needed to lose 50 lbs so not as much as some but it is still very frustrating and discouraging and not sure what to do to kickstart it again - I think I am about 6 cc's into a 9cc Realize band with fills - my husband was going to get the band but after my experience with choking, reflux and the slow weight loss he has decided not to do it.

I had surgery on the 26th of May and I have llost more weight than you have in one year. I'm down 13 lbs in less than one week .

Lap band will not loss the weight for you, you have to put in the effort to loss the weight. there is no way on earth you are sticking to the rules and have lost only 3 -5 lbs in one yr. You know what you are doing wrong because you read post on this forum. I understand that people loss weight at different rate but c'mmon, a lot of people have reached their goal weight in that one yr period.

Sit down and tell yourself the truth, only you can do that. You have the tool (lapband), the information (lapband talk.com), what is missing is your part of the deal. Put in the effort and you will loss weight.

I do think everyone is different and it depends a lot on how much a person has to lose - I think my main problem is that when I am starving I will eat whatever I can get down which may be mashed potatoes or something high in carbs but at least I know it won't get stuck - I also think drinking lots of Water is the key and I am trying to be better at that - I guess since I had 50 to lose and am down almost half of that I shouldn't complain just thought it would come off faster with as little as it seems I am eating compared to what I ate before.

I've lost 18lbs in eleven days with the lap band. But I also eat low cal low carbs, drink 4-6 liters of Water a day. and do small weight training 5 days a week. I feel great and am very rarely hungry. I think it all depends on how you work and how your body adjusts to it. You have to sit down and get serious about it. Keep a found journal and look at the foods you are eating. Start doing egg beaters instead of real eggs, do low fat low calorie subsitutes. Take a walk after dinner every night. Even if it is only 15 minutes. Do a Protein Shake for Breakfast. They have some awesome ones that I add caffeine free mocha mix too and make an amazing mocha frapaccino for breakfast every day. I wish you all the luck. Just start looking at the things you could be doing differently? When was the last time you saw your surgeon? Follow up with him and see what input he has on your lifestyle.

I have only seen my surgeon once since my surgery 11 months ago six weeks post-op - is that normal? I have had about 7 fills during that time and just see his PA for the fills.

If you can't eat in the morning, are eating slider foods, have reflux, choking and slow weight loss - you are probably too tight. So instead of another fill, it sounds like you need a slight unfill. But your doctor might want to see what is going on with an upper GI. Good luck.

Yes, for some it is normal. I saw my surgeon for the last time 3 weeks after my surgery. All my fills are done by a PA, as well. Unless you are having problems, there shouldn't really be any reason to see the surgeon again.

I was banded on 5/12 and lost 10 lbs by the time I had my first f/u.

I am due a fill on 6/18, however, I have not lost another pound since 5/21 my f/u.

I have type II diabetes and am on an insulin pump.

Have you considered being tested for insulin resistance? This can cause weight loss to stall as your body is not using the insulin you produce properly. This can also cause weight gain - even if you are eating 1200- 1500 calories a day.

Don't give up, ask them to test your hemoglobin A1C - if it is between 6.0 and 8.0, you probably need glucophage to jumpstart your body into using insulin properly. This will assist you in your weight loss also. Talk with your doctor.

Charms - you're doing fine. You should have just started eating solid foods again and it's perfectly normal to stop losing for a few weeks. Just stick with your program and the weight will start to come off. Good luck.

I got banded on May 20th and lost 11lbs within the first week. Once I got cleared to go to puree I have not lost anything and instead have been battling the same 3 lbs ( keep losing and gaining it). I don't eat high carb foods and try to have very low sugar... Is this normal??!! I seriously hit the ground running and was so happy with my weightloss. Now not losing anything has me extremely discouraged!! I have a fill on June 25th.. I do have more of an appetite than the first week but my surgeon told me that is normal. Anyone have any similar experiences??!! I just want to keep believing in myself and my new life partner... THE BAND.. hhahah

Thanks Donna -

I am hoping that when I get a fill, that something will change. I dont eat much now as it is.

I have considered calling my endocronolgist and asking to go back on glucophage with my pump to see if this might assist in the weight loss.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
