OK, Who has an AUGUST surgery date??!!

Recommended Posts

Dg298h - very cool that we're same surgeon same day! I'm sure we'll meet at some point!

All - formerfatchick mentions in a previous post that there is another thread for us August Bandsters, seems to be a bit more thorough with polls, weekly weigh ins, bios, etc. I wanted to make sure everyone knew since it may be easier for us all to be posting in one place instead of multiple. I'm going to be hanging out over there! It's August 09 Bandsters - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum

I wish everyone well with the procedure, I will be praying for everyone! I'm very excited about the entire ordeal, I've been attempting to lose weight for years like everyone else. I told my husband when I'm done I am going to go on "She's got the Look" it's a modeling show for women 40 and over.... I'm very serious.... I have the face for it, now I need the body to match my face and personality. I feel like I've been in hiding or something like that. People tell me all of the time that I look fine and that I really don't need to get a procedure like this done. The scale can't be lying, I'm 240lbs. at 40. That's way to much weight, my back hurts all of the time and I just can't wait until August 12th!!! I'm positive that it will be a lot of hard work but I'm up for the challenge. It took me for ever to make up my mind, as I started the procedure for lap band surgery in September of 08. Then by January of 09' I was completely ready, as I had got up to 252lbs. I wasn't that large when I was pregnant with either of my son's. This is what I've been searching for since about 1996. What a long time to be on a diet right? I've tried everything you can think of, my last try at it was Jenny Craig...She's for the rich women only....way to much money. After finally making up my mind I had to complete all of the steps, which took until May of 09. After that my insurance denied my procedure. I couldn't believe it with all of my past history and the fact that I had started to take medication for high blood pressure. My case was turned over to an attorney that handles retarded denied claims which took an additional 2 months and then I was finally approved in July. So needless to say this has been a long process for me, and I'm positive it is the best resolve for me!! I see my nutritionist on July 24th, and begin my 2 week liquid diet on July 29th....... I've already dropped about 12lbs with Jenny Craig, now I'm just waiting to drop about another 15-20lbs before surgery. Let's stay in touch on the post op blog August 09' branders....

WHOO HOO!!!! I NEVER GET GOOD NEWS!!!! SO, I thought I would share :)

Just saw my doc yesterday and she said tht i didnt have to start my liquid diet this week!!!!

Since I just had emergency gallbladder surgery last week and the infection is almost all gone and im healing "as expected" she said that as of now, my LB surgery is still the 5th AND instead of losing the 10 lbs she wanted me to lose prior to surgery, i've lost 16.5! whoo frickin hoo!!! Thank goodness i have been too sick to eat! HA HA! I was so worried with all of my laying around and swelling I massively gained. (P.S. I wonder how much an infected gallbladder weighs, ha ha)

Supposed to see her again Monday, so she can tell me how many days before surgery to start the liquid only diet.

LL67 - I'm also scheduled for the 10th. I've tried a number of Protein drinks as I didn't want to wait until that was all I could have to try taste testing.

I tend to like drinks that aren't milk based, I've tried and like Isopure (grape frost, fruit punch and orange), which contains 40g of Protein w/zero carbs. I've ordered samples of unjury vanilla, chicken Soup and unflavored - the unflavored mixes well w/yogurt...

I can tolerate the GNC 100% whey (Vanilla), it has a strange aftertaste.

Also, I've ordered samples from vitalady.com of nectar products, I understand that the Roadside Lemonade is wonderful. I've ordered samples of all flavors, which I haven't received yet. I plan to order larger quantities once I decide what I like best. Some of the individuals here have recommended adding frozen fruit, crystal light and Peanut Butter to various milk based drinks to add a little zest. I understand that adding orange flavored crystal light to the vanilla Protein Drink, results in a dreamsicle flavor - haven't tried it yet.

Hope this helps.

Just found out my date yesterday.... August 11. I will have my EGD on next Tuesday, the 28th, and then start the diet the next day. I don't have a lot of faith in my ability to stick to a liquid diet... I mean, if I was able to control myself I would not be in this mess in the first place.. but I had a lot of luck with Weight Watchers (of course I would eventually just gain it all back) so I am thinking that I will just do WW for the two weeks before....

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
