Favorite foods you are missing or think you will miss...

Recommended Posts

By now we all have come to realize that we must change the way we eat in order to achieve our goals. I thought it might be fun to talk about fav foods we are already missing or think we might miss in the future. Also, we can post situations pre-op or post-op in which we have had to resist temptation (i.e. out to dinner with family, vacation, ect.)

I will totally miss rice if it's something I won't be able to get down with the band.

Beer.

I don't miss it yet, but I am in mourning for it already. :grouphug: I love beer like a wine afficionado loves wine. I'm a stout/red/amber/black/micro-brew fan, but there's nothing like an ice cold domestic light brew on a hot day at the river... And since it has carbonation, it's on the band no-no list. :puke:

My surgeon recommends no alcohol for a year, mostly due to the calories and the potential for addiction transferance. Once I do drink again, it's dirty martinis for me. Good thing I love good vodka too! :hurray:

Spaghetti with garlic bread (Oh I'm going to miss bread)

Chinese food

Beer and peanuts

pizza (Can. Bacon, Tomato, mushroom, and onion)

Hamburgers (big ones anyway)

Fries, tater tots

God I'm getting hungry.....Let me get my chix broth.

But hey we, at least I have eaten a lifetime of bad food, time to think about longevity in life.

McDonald's Breakfast - an almost daily obsession (bacon-egg-cheese bagel + a sausage burrito)

pizza from Cheshire Market during or after an evening sail.

Applebee's Veggie patch Pizza (wondering if I can put a slice in my Magic Bullet as a puree -- hee hee. kidding.)

I love all the replies! Keep em coming!!

Yesterday, I made the kids one of those bag skillet meals with twirly noodles, chicken and veggies...OMG did it smell good! All the garlic butter goodness as it cooked! That took some restraint! I also had to refrain from taking a big chomp out of the cheddarwurst I had cut up for my lil boy yesterday. SO tempting! Then tonight, I made cheese pizza for the kids and the smell called to me ALL night!! I would have loved to have torn in to a piece of it!

I wonder how much everyone is eating. Today was kind of a low Protein day for me, I need to try and make sure I get a little bit more in each day. Please take a look at my food journal if you have a chance. Thanks!

Chipotle (R.I.P)

Now thats just something Im not willing to give up! I always thought it was a great choice if you dont get all the fattning toppings. I lost thirty pounds eating chipotle for lunch every day last year before my wedding. Just eat it a different way. I would get a bowl instead of a burrito (that tortillia has HUNDREDS of cals) and then no rice, but yes on the whole Beans, yes on the grilled veggies, yes on the fresh salsa, yes on the grilled chicken and a bed of lettus. Then I would split it with another girl at work and it was more than enough to fill me up. I would pass on sour cream, rice, cheese, and gwak. Mmmmmm my mouth is wattering just thinking about my favorite fast food. Dont you guys think we could still eat it if we do it like this? I just cant stand the thought of never eating chipotle again! :rolleyes2:

The biggest things I will miss are bread, rice, and Pasta. I have heard from a lot of bandsters that those dont go down well after banding. But that toast is tollerable if it is really crispy so Im hoping that will be the case for a special treat. But to NEVER eat pasta or pizza or a warm slice from a loaf of french bread....sigh. Ill miss you friends. Im not a huge fan of sweets so Im not that bummed about those. Im a carb junki for sure. So this will be a good thing.

Cold sesame Noodles. Burger king Burger shots, Lobster Alfredo, Coca-cola, Ham Egg & cheese, and pizza, Falafal.

There is probably so much more, but I'm getting really hungry thinking about it (first full day of liquid diet hell!)

What is falafal? Also, you are a size 14 to start??? Lucky!

Sushi is it for me. I mean, if you're like me - I really only like the rolls - then eating it means taking a decent sized bite. There really is no way to try to take "tiny" bites of a sushi roll - it would mess up the dynamic of filling to rice etc.

I realize rice may be out altogether, so between that probability and avoiding bigger sized bites, I think sushi rolls will be out.

Also, Chinese food - I love special fried rice and that will be out. Thai noodle dishes.

Spicy food is really out??? I mean, is that down to individual tolerances or what? Because I could see having curry chicken as long as you don't have the rice and naan and stuff. I like spicy...

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
