Does anyone eat fruit in this forum???

Recommended Posts

I very much enjoy fruit - and eat them daily. Sometimes in a smoothies, but more often just as a snack or as part of the meal. The only thing that I have had trouble with since banding is raspberry seeds...for some reasons, they are a challenge. Given their size youd wouldn't think that would be an issue, but they are for me! But anything else goes...

My challenge is to remember not to eat too much of them - I am a volume eater...so 1/4c of raisins for example could EASILY be 2 cups if I don't watch it.

I am due to be banded next month and I really need my fruit and veggies! I hope I fall into the classification of fruit and veggie eaters!

I LOVE fruit - but since the band I have not yet eaten an apple or an orange. I have kept to bananas, melons, grapes and all kinds of berries.

I do love fruit and I do eat it. I have anywhere from 1-2 per day. I also love veggies just as much. I try my very best to make sure I'm getting all my fruits and veggies in. I've noticed since banding I need them to "function" normally if you get my drift.

Funny thing is, I'm pretty tight but I don't seem to have much issue if at all with eating fruit - even apples with skin. Good thing because it is very dense with Fiber. I love fruit! It is clearly the better choice for the sweet craving.

I am 8 months post op. and have about 6cc in me.

Bananna: 1/2 at one sitting.

Strawberrys go down good

Grapes: I have to spit out the peel

Pineapple: I have to spit out the texture portion

Thank you to the other responces, as I have not tried apples yet.

Love fruit! I eat apples all the time and my fav indulgence for awhile was an apple with Peanut Butter - yum. However, I noticed the pb was starting to get larger and larger, so I cut that out! I have not had any problems with bananas, peaches, watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, blackberries or raspberries. All seem to go down just fine!

I love summer!

I love fruit and miss eating it in the quantities I used to. Oranges just don't work for me anymore though.

- I love having fruit in smoothies, or with a little granola or Protein Cereal over greek yogurt.

I will occasionally eat fruit as a snack by itself but I usually try to have it with some sort of Protein (apples w/ pb or have a piece of cheese too)

I was told by my dietician to try and keep a balanced diet (as balanced as you can get with the band) my vegies where low and so where my fruit intake so at the moment I've had strawberries every day. Like yesterday for Breakfast I had a piece of toast with jam and 3 strawberries. At the moment it's hard to find any other fruit that's ripe, because it's winter here in australia and strawberries are the only thing I like (bananas make me puke from the smell of them) so it'll probably be easier once summer comes.

I too have a hard time with fruit so I throw them in the blenderwith a little Water and make smoothies. It's been the only way I can get a full days worth of fruit in. I do this every morning since I am too tight to eat and it feels good to get something down in the a.m. Good luck to you!!

I'm a vegetarian, so I eat lots of fruits and veggies.

I haven't tried eating apples, yet, as I'm only one month post-op.

Though, I buy all kinds of frozen fruit at wal-mart. Such as various berries, mango and peaches. I make a morning smoothie using lite-soy milk and Protein powder. I add two fruits, what ever I feel like that morning. I buy bananas and freeze them for my smoothies, as well. Peel the bananas, slice them and throw a portion (about 1/2 a large banana) in individual zip-lock bags.

I bought one of those blending wand things. I blend and drink in the same cup. I looked at the magic bullet gadget. But, I got the 250 watt wand for 1/2 the cost. It even can w/a food processor. I guess it's one of those, "To each her own" things :)

If you're worried about Fiber, you can try a Metamucil-type product. I used to buy those apple flavored Metamucil cookies/wafers. That was my in pre-vegetarian days, lol. But, my hubs, who is a devout carnivor, likes those thins, which says a lot!. He's picky eater. If it's not meat or overed in hocolate, he's not interested! And he's pencil thin, to boot. It irks me so much.

I buy the no sugar added fruits in those little containers that are already measured as 1/2 cup. Peaches, mandarin oranges and applesauce. My fresh fruits are 1/2 banana or 1/2 cup of blueberries or raspberries. I haven't had cantaloupe yet because it's too expensive but I think I would tolerate it. I eat fruit at every meal. I also eat veggies at lunch and dinner. So that is 5 servings a day of fruits & veggies and 5-9 servings/day is recommended.

This has been an issue for me because I'm somewhat of a fruit junkie, haha. I LOVE fruit. Like everyone else here probably, there are days I can get certain foods down better than others. I have a pretty good track record with bananas, cantelope, apples, and watermelon. I tend to have to suck the juice out of oranges, which is pointless cause I could just drink a glass of oj much more easily. If I am really craving grapes, I will eat a few by peeling them first. This doesnt' happen often though because it is so tedious to peel a grape, haha! I really love pineapple, but it tend to be pretty difficult for me to eat, and unfortunately, there are no really good tricks to eating pineapple.< /p>

Anyone have any good tricks to keep bananas fresh after they've been cut? I can't eat an entire banana in one sitting and I hate to waste the leftover.

fruit fresh is amazing - most stores have it in the produce or canning section - it's a powder (basically I think its a from of citric acid) that you either sprinkle on or can mix with a little Water and then toss with the fruit. - also helps keep guacamole beautiful.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
