I got approved through Tricare! Yay Me! I am in the process of setting a date for the surgery. Looks like it will be 5/22/09! Woo Hoo! They are not requiring a pre-op diet, but I was curious what kind of pre-op diet you all had? Any suggestions. I want to start to train myself now. I already do a Protein Shake for Breakfast everyday!

I had my surgery 1 month ago and feel great. The first few days were really uncomfortable but don't worry about it. It is soooo worth it. I have lost 24 pounds since surgery and 11 on the liver shrinking diet beforehand. Not everybody has to follow a special diet before depends upon your BMI. Mine was 54 so I had to do it. Just eat high Protein foods and Protein Shakes for 10-days before surgery. Congratulations on your decision. Your new life begins after banding.

my surgery is may 21st - i started my required 7 day all liquid diet today!

Congrats! We need to stay in touch since our surgeries are the same day. How exciting. They didn't make me do a pre-op diet. They said it's because my BMI is only 37.9.

I'm going to be using TriCare also...they approved my consult visit....so I hope they approve the surgery as well(since it's 100%). I'm on the lower end of the weight spectrum, but I am considered to be 100lbs over my ideal weight (117-133lbs) and I have type 2 diabetes....

How long did it take from your consult, to get approved and get your surgery date? I hope I don't have to wait 6 months, but I guess that would be dependant on the dr. right??

The only problem I had with Tricare is that they would not let me use the only doctor in town that does lap-bands. I have to drive almost 2 hours to the doctor that they approved. He is absolutely wonderful, so I don't really mind. It only took a week to get approval after my consultation appt. As soon as they got that, they gave me a date 2 weeks from then. As long as you meet their criteria, Tricare will approve you pretty quick!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
