WOO-HOO!!!!!!

Financing in place and surgery scheduled for June 12th with Dr. Aceves. So it looks like Ruthgrosvenorcox, my DBF and I will be headed to Mexico to change our lives and our health.

Looking forward to it being over and finally being able to get this weight off and keep it off for good! Anyone else having surgery around that time? Let us know -- we'll have a party to Celebrate :)

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you.

Thank you -- I hope my recovery goes as well as you, Susan and WasA. It will be nice to have someone else down there with me, although Ruthi has been through the wringer, so I am sure this surgery will be a breeze for her. Me, on the other hand, this will be my first major surgery. ;):eek6:

I have had my gallbladder out (lap), been banded (lap), and am now 5 weeks post-op from the VSG (lap). I have to say the VSG was the easiest of them all. I was worried about traveling home alone on a 6 hour flight but the pain was minimal. It feels like you did a ton of sit-ups and the more you move, the better you feel. You're both going to do great.

WASA was sick when she had her revision and had a longer recovery but did great as well.

Fantastic! Congrats to you!

Thanks WasA. I am sure I will have many questions beforehand and probably a million more afterwards -- consider this fair warning to you, Elizabeth and *Susan*.

Yeah!!! I had my sleeve surgery on 4/28/09 and I'm feeling great!

Did you go to Dr. Aceves? If you did, we were there at the same time. My surgery was 4-29

Congratulations Angel! That's only a month from now and I am sure the time will fly by!

A really good friend of mine is there right now. She had sleeve surgery yesterday.

Yay for the sleeve! We are all going to be living happier lives!

Thanks Daisy --

I am sure as fast as the first 4 months of the year flew by, June will be here before I know it. I'm looking forward to it being over and seeing the weight come off -- I know it will be work, I've battled weight my entire life -- however, this time the work will be gratifying in knowing that the weight won't come back!

Happy to be going with someone else, too -- and even happier that Ruthie doesn't have to go alone. I wouldn't be entirely alone as my DBF is going with me ... Ruthie was going to do it all on her own, so now I'm happy she will have the support of me and Bob (my DBF):glare:

I went by myself. Sometimes it amazes me that I did. I don't like to do anything alone. Anytime I want to do something, I call friends and if they can't go, I just stay home.

I still can't believe I got on a plane, went to a strange airport, drove with strangers to a strange hospital, and had surgery where they removed a good majority of my stomach.

Just goes to show how strong you can be when it is for something you REALLY want ... think of all the possibilities ahead of you now that you've done all this on your own!!!

I am really anxious to be off this stupid but necessary liquid diet so I can really see how the sleeve works.

Elizabeth and Susan were not hungry but I am starving most of the time. My stomach just growls and growls. I really hope when I move to full liquids on Sunday, this will improve. This is, by far the only thing hard about this entire process.

Hi

I'm from the UK and I had my surgery in Czech Republic on 24/03/2009 and its the best thing I've ever done, I wish I had done it earlier now.

I'm sure you will be fine. All the best for the surgery.

Take Care.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
