Does everyone get the lidocaine shot before a fill??

Recommended Posts

The first fill I got did hurt alot but it was because he used a short needle. We used the longer needle for the next 2 fills and no problems. Maybe ask for a longer needle?

I almost always have the lidocaine. My port is extremely difficult to access and I have to get into many different positions even with flouro. I am usually standing up to have a fill! My port is flipped but at this point the dr. is still able to access it. He told me that next time, if it is as difficult to access as it has been the last 2 times, then I should probably have my port replaced. It doesn't seem to be a difficult procedure so I am considering the replacement. I am happy for those of you that have easy fills but it's not like that for everyone.

I have the PAC do my fills. She is very good and I have never felt any discomfort. She is in and out in a few seconds. No lidocaine.

My doc does the lidocaine routinely. I wasn't entirely sure I needed it, but after I thought about it, I wondered if that's how he gets my fills covered on my insurance. If it is, bless him....... I'll take the extra stick.

The first three times I had a fill my doctor used the lidocaine but this last time (Monday, May 11) he used a spray freezing stuff and that was it. I really don't think I need that either but that is how he does it. I didn't have any pain meds after surgery at all, could not believe how great I felt!!!!!!!!!!! Had gallbladder surgery last year and only took one pain pill the whole recovery time!

The first fill I got was with the lidocaine. Lucy me..I was allergic to it so the after effects were long lasting.

No more lidocaine for me but no pain with the small prick either.

My first fill was done with the Lidocaine and it hurt like a bee sting, the second I told them no Lidocaine and I did not feel a thing. I had a port for my chemo and never had it numbed so I will always go without from now on.

PS I agree with the others, why get stuck twice??

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
