Scale not moving advice please

Recommended Posts

Let me first say that I am happy with my weight loss. I was banded march 20, 2009 and have lost 34lbs so far. However, much of that weight loss was in the first 3 weeks of my surgery. I have not lost anything since. I keep going between the same 3lbs and it is driving me crazy. Can anyone give me some advice? Here is what I ate today

egg whites and 2 turkey sausage

South beach bar

4oz meat loaf 2oz cream spinach (Boston Market)

I exercise 3 times a week for 30min on an elliptical trainer.

I will say that I do struggle to get my Water in. I get about 40-45oz i am trying to increase this.

In addition, I wanted to know how many carbs should I be eating a day? Thanks

You are not eating enough. You are making healthy choices but you are not taking in enough calories especially for the amount you are working out.

Add in a lean cuisine into the mix or a piece of fruit or something. Good luck.

Libby is right! You're not eating enough calories. Go to one of the websites that track your intake. I use the daily plate on www.livestrong.com. I can input my food, Water, and exercise and know exactly what I need to do. Either eat more, or less, or differently. It has a pie chart that shows fat/protein/carbs.

When you input your exercise and activity level, it will tell you how many calories to eat.

Also, be patient. I know you're ready to be slim and fit, but this isn't a race! I found I lose 5 lbs, then plateau for 10-14 days, then lose again. You're doing great!

That happened to me too. I find that unless I eat between 1,000 - 1,200 calories, my body holds it all.

I think it is that starvation mode thing...

Good Luck!

P.S. I also use livestrong.com to track my calories.

You can go to the bottom of my signiture and see what I eat for the last couple of months.

I am a guy, so you probably don't need as much Protein, but it doesn't really hurt, unless you get crazy with it.

I also lose about 2lbs every 4 days. I'm currently on 8 days without losing, but I'm not worried. I am tracking my calories in and calories out, and the weight loss will show up.

If you have time....try doing a little more time on the exercise and a little less intensity. I get my heart rate up to just 120ish and stay there for about 2 hours. It burns the same amount of calories and is easier to do everyday.

I have been going through the same thing and this is what I have done. I decide to stay off the scales except for Mondays and Friday. Mondays to see how "bad" i did over the weekend, to know what I need to work on the up coming week and Fridays to see what I did throughout the week. I have also started keeping a food journel as well. I think you really would be suprised at how many calories you are eating in a day if you truly count everything you drink or put in your mouth. I have also started eating around 90 grams of Protein a day and drinking 60 oz of Water each day. I take two Fiber bill at 9am and 3pm and chromium once a day everyday. I eat everythree hours starting at 7am(Protien Shake) snake (protein Bar) at 10, lunch around 1, snack (bar, cheese,or almonds) at 4 then dinner before 7. I eat the same time everyday. I walk 3 miles at least everyother day. I started this pretty strict a week ago, going on week #2 and I lost 4 pounds last week. I was stressing so much over everything, I decided to relax and do what I was suppose to, choose the right foods and write down everything stay between 1100 and 1200 calories a day and it worked for me. I truly think the protien water and 1200 calories is the key! Good luck and I wish you the best!

Carrie

That is GREAT!

Funny how eating too little can make you NOT lose weight. LOL

Hope things continue to go well!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
