Miss California and Gay marriage

Yes, but when one is 21 years old and only being voted on for how pretty they are and how hot they are in a bikini, do you really expect Rhodes Scholars? :)

As for the other, sorry, I was trying to distinguish what you were saying, and I thought it was something different. :)

Boy I hope they are not Rhodes Scholars because the last one I saw didn't even know what volcano monitoring was.

I believe Trump stated they went back and added the scores and she would have lost no matter how many points Perez gave her on the quesiton. That is lost however on her blind supporters who insist she lost out on the crown because she is ant equal marriage rights.

I never thought specifically that she lost because of her answer. I simply had an issue with the villianization of her for being honest. It lended credibility to the possibility that she could have lost it due to her answer, but I hadn't seen anything about her scoring or whether she would have lost anyway.

oh hell no - but i want her to continue to speak for family values & marriage & all.....cause she's so articulate, :)

Does flashing nips and lying about the amount of pics out there count for family values?

On the radio today one of the DJ's who has been a big supporter of her was disgusted at how easy she has been lying. Oh that is the only picture, oops now there was even more than one photo shoot where my top is off. I was under 17 in the pink panties pic, oops no I told a pagent director I was over 18 in the picture when I emailed it to him. I had a wardrobe malfunctin and my nip slipped out, oops just yesterday it was a windy day.

Could you give some specific examples of things he has done as President of the United States? I am being serious because I don't see it. I have asked this on other boards but I don't get an answer just "he is".

Socialism is defined as:

"A theory or system of social reform which contemplates a complete reconstruction of society, with a more just and equitable distribution of property and labor."

This is most certainly happening with government (and citizens) deeming certain businesses as not worthy of "making too much money." It is also seen in the redistribution of wealth which, as we all know, did not start with Obama. However, he wants to expand this practice.

A further description states:

"An economic system in which the production and distribution of goods are controlled substantially by the government rather than by private enterprise, and in which cooperation rather than competition guides economic activity. There are many varieties of socialism. Some socialists tolerate capitalism, as long as the government maintains the dominant influence over the economy; others insist on an abolition of private enterprise. All communists are socialists, but not all socialists are communists."

I bolded the above, and we are also seeing this happening as well.

Fascism is defined as:

"A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism."

Again, the above bolded references are either beginning or being threatened under this administration, especially the censorship of opposition such as Rush Limbaugh and other right-wing talk hosts. I also see this being done via the whole thought policing that is going on, like what happened recently with the Miss USA pageant. Little by little people are being bullied into believing a certain way, and if they don't, they are ostracized for not being PC. I truly believe the time will come that such opposing views will be termed hate speech and treated as criminal.

Granted, some of this is societal and can't be put on Obama; it will depend on what he does in these arenas while in office that will determine how involved he is in this. Certainly during the time before the election, he was using threats and bullying tactics in relation to things he didn't like that were being said about him. In a normal situation, it is understandable that people don't like being spoken about negatively, but in many instances the stuff that was coming out was true. AND it's unheard of for a politician -- especially one running for president -- to bully his opponents the way Obama did.

Whether he ends up leaning totally towards fascism is anybody's guess. However, socialism IS getting a toe-hold in this country, and socialism simply does not survive because a country cannot thrive under socialist rule. So what often happens is it's a short hop over to outright communism, a path many once-socialist-then-communist countries have taken. And how many of them have survived?

Look at the USSR as one of our most recent examples of a large country under communist rule. It always eventually implodes, because once the scales tip just enough, then there aren't enough worker bees to support the non-worker bees -- either because the economy completely tanks, or because some figure why stand in the "working" line when they can just switch lines to the "non-working/receiving handouts" line?

And which one was it last year who had the whole "maps" fiasco?? Omg, it would be sad if it wasn't so dang funny!

Wait....

I was asking for specific (that means executive orders or signed bills) showing Obama is a socialist. I was not looking for definitions of socialisim and magic "threats" that Beck, Hannity, or Limbdud have spewed forth with no basis. Come on Beth give me something, anything.

I missed the maps thing. If you are speaking of how many states we have I believe he said 52 in context with primary voting which is correct.

Do you REALLY need links showing what he and his administration are doing to the private sector? How they are running many of our banks and not even allowing them to pay back the loans so they can retain control? Firing heads of companies? Have you really not seen this? If you don't consider that socialist, what do you call it? And please show me one place in our founding documents where it states that the government can take over corporations.

Bristol Palin has put herself in the spotlight. She is over 18 and fair game.

Actually her mother did before the left could do it.

And I thought you lefties were all about kids having kids and doin' their thing. Unless it can be slung in somebody's face, that is.

Uhh bank running was started by the previous inhabitant.

They want to pay back the loans so they don't have to stop their failing business practices and continue to give themselves fat bonuses. They thought they could tax payer dollars and continue to go to club med.

Let me get this straight: CEO drives company into ground yet he should keep his job when the tax payers give the company a bailout. Yes he should be FIRED. If the taxpayers are going to give bailout money you will have to get rid of those who are not able to run the company so the taxpayers money has less of a chance of going down the tube.

So I am assuming you have no specific examples, no executive orders or bills signed?

For the record I was against all this TARP B.S.

I work in a left enviroment and live in a left state. I know of no one who wants kids to have kids. I have never in my life heard anyone say they are pro teenage pregnancy.

Interesting however that teenage pregnancy is just as high in RED states as it is in BLUE states but don't let statistics get in the way of a good old fashioned liberal bash.

Mama Palin threw Bristol out their to deflect the Trig birth questions. There is MY conspiracy theory. :)

How many times have you spoken before an audience? Speaking before people takes a lot of practice, it is not something you acquire overnight or from just one class. Nervousness is the number one killer of speeches, you have to learn to control it, and when you do, you will do pretty good.

I don't want to speak in front of audiences.....I just want to tutor Prejean.

I don't really think she was wrong to state her opinion. What I said is that if she wanted the crown, she needed to be politically correct.

That's funny that you're equating being "politically correct" with lying.

How many other contestants had their breast implants paid for? Maybe she did it just for the implants and said whatever people told her to say. If she prepped that much on her body I'm sure they prepped on what to say too!:)

Hmmmm.....that's actually not so far-fetched, if you think about it. If that were true, then it's a win-win for everybody: Prejean gets 15 mins of fame, Trump gets "controversy" and therefore ratings, and gay marriage gets thrust into the spotlight. Win-win from that perspective.

Yes and maybe she could combine her tour with Bristol Palin!

What's the connection between the two?

Bristol Palin has put herself in the spotlight. She is over 18 and fair game.

Uh-huh......it was Bristol that put herself in the spotlight. Riiiiight.

They want to pay back the loans so they don't have to stop their failing business practices and continue to give themselves fat bonuses. They thought they could tax payer dollars and continue to go to club med.

Well....yeah. I'd want that too, if I could get it written into my contract. Damn hospital won't go for it, tho.

But you mean to tell me that you're totally ok with government getting into private sectors (many banks continue to claim that the treasury dept. forced them to take TARP money) and then making the business decisions of said sectors? It would have been way better to let those businesses fail. And yes, I blame Bush for a lot of that TARP bullshite. Dude panicked.

Mama Palin threw Bristol out their to deflect the Trig birth questions. There is MY conspiracy theory. :)

LOLZ. That's nuts.

Plain: "That's funny that you're equating being "politically correct" with lying."

Is that what you do when you are trying to appear unbiased? Or don't you ever have the need to stay out of the critical limelight?

Being politically correct does not mean lying. It means that they're being politically correct, you nut ball. In other words, they aren't saying anything that would be considered controversial. They keep their friggin' yap shut. They play nice. They try to stay above the smell of the crowd and the roar of the grease paint (to quote a politico).

Man, I sure am getting tired of having to straighten you out. If you'll quit picking on me, I won't have to do that so much.

I'd like to know why Beth isn't being jumped on for not answering the question and not citing specifics. Hmmmmm? She quite often uses the term socialist in the same sentence with the word president. Someone tries to get her to say exactly why, what particular action on the part of the president, makes him a socialist. So far, nothing but conjecture and opinion.

I believe that DownIn has it right. People don't really understand the term socialism. They toss it around trying to insult the president, but it only serves to make them look irrational.

Apparently you have not been watching the Bristol/Levi show as of late. You can catch it on Good Morning America and the Anchorage Daily News. It stars Bristol, Levi, Madam Palin, and Granddaddy Palin.

Pfffft. If Palin gave birth to that kid then I am a canidate for Miss USA.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
