Miss California and Gay marriage

Recommended Posts

So she lied on her contract and that should not matter because she will answer to god for it? That makes no sense to me. Why even have a justice system then? To me it does not matter how the pictures came to light they are there, she lied, she broke her contract, done. Crown the runner up.

I think you're mixing up two things that I said. You seemed to be asking two different things, one having to do with lying to pageant officials, and one asking what God thinks about what she did. I said that it DOES matter if she lied. If she did (and right now it's not looking too good for her, though I have only seen one picture), then yes, she should lose her crown. As to the question about answering to God, that is for her to do, not be scrutinized by us for what she will have to answer to God for. They are two separate issues.

I would say the same thing if she had answered that gay marriage was the best thing for America.

I wish I could believe that is true, but you say it is, so I will accept that and move on. However, if she had answered "correctly," this would never even come up. I have no doubt about that at all.

The pictures are not the only way she has broke her contract. She has also been doing appearences and commercials without permission which is strictly forbidden in her contract.

I don't know what the rules are on this, so I guess I'll have to look into this. If I was her, I wouldn't WANT to represent such a screwed-up state as California anyway.

You say that the "majority" of American feels the same way she does. How can she be "punished" for something that is "main stream"?

She IS being punished by a small minority who are zealots on this topic. And yes, the majority (no quotes) of Americans do not support gay marriage.

What have I refused to acknowledge?

Well, for one, that the majority of Americans (again, no quotes) do not support gay marriage. Or that she should be commended for sticking to her convictions regardless of what you feel about the answer she gave.

If she was from any other state than California (except perhaps Massachusettes and whatever the other state is that has legalized gay marriage), this probably would also be a non-issue.

Beth,

I think your true colors are showing for the times you're using the terms "fag" and "flame" etc...sounds like a homophobe to me!

I have called Perez Hilton ONLY a fag and a flame. Did you take issue with him calling Miss California a bitch or a c*nt?

My true colors is I hate that "thing" with a passion. He deserves far harsher than "fag" or "flame," trust me. I've been restrained.

It is always interesting to me when people let terms "slip" out. Kind of like using the n*g word in any context.

Dear, there was no "slipping out." I specifically and purposely called him those names. And I have no issue in doing so. He's that and worse.

I personally don't take Perez Hilton as personally as you seem to do. To me he's just some guy who has a blog spewing out National Enquirer type info. I don't read it myself or watch it unless he's in the news. I take issue with you using terms like fag and flame. Is your hatred of him because he's gay it seems that way when you use hateful speech like "fag and flame"?

You know Beth, there has not been a nation-wide referendum on the question of gay marriage. How could you possibly know how the majority of Americans feel on this issue? You know what you've heard or read and I just don't think that there has been a true test yet on how all Americans feel about this issue.

You may have decided that because the majority of Americans are Christian, that it follows that the majority of Americans would then vote for a ban on gay marriage. What you may not have taken into account is how many Christians do not have a problem with gays marrying.

If your source is some poll that a group has taken, it doesn't change my argument at all. Remember how exit polls aren't accurate? At least during some elections...

One reason I take issue with your statements is because you keep noting that when you use the word "majority", it is not in quotes.

Got it. I am assuming then you see no problem using the "n" word to speak about an African American you dislike or the "g" word to speak of an Asian American you dislike. You can also combine terms like "f*ing n*g" and such to really drive home the point.

At least you are honest though. I will give you a point for that.

Normally when speaking about someone I don't like I don't talk about the color of their skin, their orientation, etc. Only those who hate do that. It is a hallmark of ignorance........dear.

It is interesting someone from Virginia of all states would be worried about how screwed up California is but I don't assume that you are toothless and backwoods like the t.v. portrays all Virginians to be.

Okay, then prove me wrong.

Which state is it that rejected gay marriage, yet the judicial branch usurped the people's vote and instituted it anyway? One of the very few states which have it ONLY has it because of this detestable maneuver.

Look if a state like CALIFORNIA couldn't even pass it, that says a lot. Yes, I rely on information I read and polls I've seen, and it has absolutely nothing to do with whether this is a "Christian nation" or not.

The majority of people, if put to a vote, would vote against it. It's been struck down more than it's been accepted, and in very left-wing states, to boot. That tells me that mainstream America will not go for it.

Aren't you precious. When all else fails, make this personal against another poster. :)

For what it's worth, I'm a transplant here.

Beth you're the one who is speaking in absolutes here. Not me. I have no idea how it would go if everyone were allowed to vote on it. I tend to think that gay marriage would be defeated, but it is definitely not a given like you think it is. And it absolutely DOES have to do with Christianity and religion.

Or when all else fails pull out the disparaging name, fag, flamer, homo, n*g, g**k, and such correct?

I am sorry you are not being let off the hook for your choice of words. The thing is I really respected how well you articulated your position until you waived your true flag. Then the real reason showed. Again only those who hate use those terms. Those who do not hate cringe at them, regardless of what side they are on.

Take a close look at yourself and be really honest. You might be surprised at what you find.

Oh by the way my mother has a 4 inch scar on her head from where some jerk threw a brick at her when she was coming out of a known gay club. She was there doing charity nursing work. Go figure. He screamed fag as he was doing it. No hate their eh?

Socal, this isn't about me, and you have no power to keep me on any "hook". I know you want to MAKE it about me, but it's not. And me calling some idiot who called this poor woman a bitch and a c*nt, yet YOUR issue is with ME calling him a fag and a flame speaks VOLUMES. So I guess that makes him a hater as well? Whatever, your answer really doesn't interest me.

There is a huge difference between calling someone a bitch and using a derogatory term about their orientation or color of their skin. Wouldn't you agree?

For the record I thought he went too far and the question was not fair. He also has the right to free speech as you are practicing here. Just because you have the right to free speech though does not mean you won't be called on it being ugly.

DownIn: There are definitely toothless, backwoods folks in Virginia. Some of them have such an accent I would defy most other Americans to understand them.

But there are also Virginians who are some of the most sophisticated people in the world.

Which is another illustration of why it is downright stupid to slap a tag on people and declare that they are smart and good or that they are dumb and evil.

One thing I know for sure: the color of one's skin, or one's sexual preferences or the choice of one's church, do not reveal whether a person is good or bad. You have to dig much deeper than those superficial things to find out whether you're dealing with a person of quality and high moral values.

i do think the majority of voting citizens are against gay marriage.....even the ones that say they aren't.

my husband struggles w/the issue & his sister is gay - so while he is in a learning curve of understanding.....he still is not in favor deep down.

hey listen - i grew up w/the term fag meaning a cigarette; if ugly words are what people use , slang or otherwise - that's theirs to own. .... not who they are directed at.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
