LOL I'm not a morning person either, girls. It's just that I work M-F 8-5 so I have to do it sometime. I'm also super girly so I will not show up at work without makeup which means I have to get up at the crack of dawn to fit everything in and make it to work on time. *SIGH*:smile2:

I think my approach to exercise is similar to my approach to being banded. I got my band so I could eat in moderation, like normal people. I will exercise in moderation, too.

There was a time in my life when I was thin, fit, and healthy. But to stay there it required 20-25 hours per week in the gym or running. It consumed my whole life. I may catch the "bug" again, but if I don't I'm happy with what I'm doing.

I got tickled at the pool yesterday. I hadn't been swimming in a long time. I made 5 laps and was feeling pretty proud of myself, until I heard these two old guys talking about swimming 20 laps!! And they were 25 years OLDER than me!! But, it makes me want to do better!

I did good today. I walked hills at the lake for about a half hour. These are serious hills where you reach forward and steady yourself on the ground ahead of you! Tomorrow I have to mow the yard. That's about 2 hours of pushing a mower! So, that'll be my exercise for the day.

And, like most of you...I will not get up early and go to the gym! I am NOT a morning person!

Ya'll have a good weekend!

This is a great thread!

About four years ago, a friend who is a personal trainer set up a program for me and my best friend. She helped us pick out weights, a bench and bar, so we have a little home gym. We also have a treadmill.

It was always hard for me to make myself exercise, but I do like the feeling I have after I'm done. That hasn't changed, but with the band, I have more motivation because the weight is coming off.

Three times a week, we do weight resistance, for different parts of the body, crunches plus going on the treadmill. At work we have a gym, and a track on the roof of the building, and we walk a mile during lunch. I've started doing this at least twice a week. I try to go on the treadmill even if I don't exercise, and, as someone else said, there's always an excuse for not exercising, but I think this thread will keep me honest.

The days I do the programs set up for me are Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and I go on the track in between, Mondays and Wednesdays. When it gets hot, though, I'll just have to go on the treadmill, which is what I was doing, though not faithfully, before my banding.

Thank you, Donna, for this thread!

Debbie

Melly, good for you for doing it in the first place! I am sorry tho that it has to be so bloody early!! In my case, it just wouldn't happen. That's why I'd said you were way better than I am! You make sure you get it done, I'd blow it off! :smile2:

June, I have those types of hills too! Lean forward to get me, the stroller and the dog UP the hill, then lean back so we don't go DOWN the hill too fast!! That's just about my whole walk!! Yikes! The only flat parts are the turn-around part of the cul-de-sacs!!

Debbie, What a great friend! Your routine sounds great and like you're changing things up. Great job!

How ya been? Are you getting things figured out for yourself? How's the fill process going?

Got out there again today. I'm trying to make it out there everyday. Tomorrow is a maybe. Church, if we make it, in the AM, then it depends on how hot it gets in the afternoon as to whether we can walk or not. The dog hasn't gotten her yearly haircut yet (Monday PM!) so it gets too warm for her and I feel bad if I have to leave her at home. She knows we're going and will bark the entire time we're gone if we leave her. Makes me feel bad! LOL!

I know Wednesday won't happen b/c I've got an AM appointment w/my doc for my refill and he's an hour from me, one way. So it'll be a "get up and out of the house" type of morning. We'll also run errands while in the city so we'll get back late. :w00t:

The rest of the week looks good for walking tho so that'll make me happy!

Can I play? I have a hate/hate relationship with exercise. I was never an exercise person. I was thin all of my life and stupidly thought I would stay that way. Considering there is no one thin in my family, I should have realized that was a delusion. I get up every day at 5:00 just to get myself and DS ready to be at my job by 7. I haven't exercised consistently since banding. I have an elliptical machine and an exercise bike. I was gungho the first week of having both. Now, not so much. I am going to put on my tennis shoes and go walking now. I haven't walked my neighborhood since before banding. I guess I need you guys to kick my butt. I never even venture into the other fitness threads. Thankfully, this one caught my eye. I have to do this to lose more weight. I know that mentally. Doing it is completely different.

Ok, I'm dressed for exercise, and today we'll concentrate on arms, and afterward, the treadmill. Once I have on my workout clothes there's no turning back!

Michelle, I'm doing great. I went to my doctor Thursday and have lost 8 pounds. Because I'm eating every three, sometimes four, hours, he didn't want to give me another fill, but he said if anything changes I'm to go in immediately, not wait for my next scheduled appointment.

Thank you for asking!

Good for all of us!

Debbie

i feel so intimidated. i was banded on wednesday april the 22nd. they modified my walking program b/c last yr i had a bad fall and shattered my knee and damaged my spine. i was in a wheelchair or a walker most of the year. walking even 5 minutes outside is a chore and really painful to my back. they said i could get in a pool in 3 weeks. i have a treadmill but the physical therapist said not to use it b/c of the impact being bad for my spine. i have lost 12 pounds in 3 days but the lack of excercise is frustrating.

Slim, of course you can play!

I was thin all my life to. Smallest one in my family. BUT I still thought I was fat, just the smallest fat one of the 4 of us! So delusioned!

How was your walk? I've found I really love mine!

Glad to know you're doing well! WTG!

Don't feel intimidated! Sounds like a horrific injury! Just do what you can (what the experts allow) and go from there! That's all you can do and it's better than nothing! I think the pool will be great for you! Hang in there and keep posting with us!

Well, we got out for my walk today so that was good. This week is going to end up being a busy one but I'm still determined to got out there every day!

Have a great Monday everyone!

The walk was ok. I went to a local park instead of walking my neighborhood. It was really pleasant. I had my headphones on and just zoned out.

Ok, so I went for a walk during my lunch hour. I didn't quite make it to 30 minutes. I did hit a hill and a few flights of steep steps in a parking lot across the street. I was wondering though, is it better to eat before you exercise or after? Do any of you know?

Don't be intimidated! Get in that pool! That is the best exercise you can do! No joint damage! Great resistance, too! And, 12 pounds in 3 days is NOTHING to be frustrated about! You're doing great! Besides that, you're still healing for the first 6 weeks. Any weight loss at all is great because most don't lose, and some even gain a few pounds. Be patient with yourself!

Welcome, Slim! Good for you, walking on your lunch hour! And, the steps are a plus! Great for the backside! My lunch break is too short to do anything but eat my food!

As for eating before or after, I cannot get food down right after I work out. My PA where I get my fills told me to eat a Protein bar about 30 minutes before I exercise. Some days I do, but mostly I forget!

This forum is hard to read with the white background!

I'm so aggravated! I was very careful with what I ate all weekend. Got up early Sunday morning and walked 3 laps at the park. 1.8 miles! Then I came home and push mowed my yard, then riding mowed another yard, loaded junk, hauled it to the dump, lost my dog and spent a half hour looking for her. Then when I found her she was spooked and took off running. I ran another half mile trying to catch the little witch! After all that I talked my husband into going to the pool with me to swim laps. He ran into a buddy so I swam extra laps while they were talking. 7 laps! So, I'm feeling really good about all this, until I get up this morning and GAINED a pound! I worked my tail off yesterday. At least I could have stayed the same!!!!

WTG JuneAct! I really didn't want to go to the gym on Friday. I had talked myself out of it by the time I got to the house to pick up DD, but when I got there she was already dressed to go.

So, I didn't even say anything to her about not going. I just got changed and went to the gym. I ended up beating my time, and was really into it.

Saturday, we woke up early and went for a walk with the dogs. That was about a 2 mile walk. We walk to a park, then around the lake, then back home again.

Sunday, I walked around a festival, but I did split a funnel cake with my mom and DD, so that may not count towards weight loss! :tt2:

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
