Just be honest. They aren't trying to rule people out, they are hoping to clear you. Remember that. Some people are not suited to the band. For example, there was a poster a while back who literally flipped out once she had the band. She IMMEDIATELY wanted her doctor to "get this thing OUT of me". A good psych eval should've caught that and helped her either truly prepare, or realize without surgery that the band wasn't for her. It's there to help you. Tell the truth, you'll be ok.

There really aren't any WRONG answers. What they are looking for is to see that you have a realistic attitude about what the surgery means for your future physically and emotionally. They do want to determine that you don't have unreasonable expectations....as in someone who has a lot of personal issues who somehow thinks that if they lose the extra weight everything else will somehow instantly become perfect. So relax and answer the questions. My girlfriend lost her husband just over a year before her eval. and the shrink asked her what she was going to do when she lost the weight and the men started wanting to date her....and she replied "not a damn thing! I had the best and I'm not interested in the rest".

I told mine about depression and lack of mobility and wanting to see my kids through collage, etc.

I am on anti anexity medication which makes it easy to overeat and he understands that as well.

My shrink happens to have seen good results from the band partcularly from my band doctor so he supports it. I suppose if you get an anti-band doctor that might be a problem. I would suggest that if they dont approve you find out why then go to another shrink.

I had my first of two required psych visits yesterday. It wasn't bad at all! He went over how when we are not eating (with the help of WLS, hopefully) out of boredom, stress, happiness, sadness, etc. you will need to start examining your true "inner self" and your motivations for your previous destructive behaviors. He said it was a real eye opener for a lot of his paitients, and that most people only really start "getting it" after they really start keeping track of what and when they eat, then how they feel after it. Also, keep track of how you feel during the day, ups and downs, what causes them and how you cope. He did recommend food journaling, but REALLY stressed journaling about your moods, and your energy levels. Makes sense to me, you can see what foods make you feel good, what foods make you feel crappy. Then...this is what we all need to do, modify your behavior to keep on the "good" end of things. Personally, this is where I hope the band can help me!

Good luck to you, let us know how it goes! Jodi

In addition to the emotional, mental discussion part of her job was also to be sure i understood the basic mechanics and risks associated with the surgery. Good luck!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
