I was banded on March 30th and have been nauseous everday. I did vomit (if you can even call it that). The nausea medicine they gave me makes things worse. I have been scared to eat or drink ever since because it was very painful. According to my nutrition info they gave me I should be taking in alot more and should start purees tomorrow but I don't want to vomit. I am also scared of becoming malnurished and dehydrated. Never in a million years did I ever think I would be afraid of eating! Drinking Water is all im comfortable with right now but I know thats not enough. What should I be drinking, eating? All advice is greatly appreciated!

I was banded a day after you. And I to get nausious a lot and very light headed. I decided to stop taking my narcotic, it has HELPED SOO MUCH! So now i only take it if my pain is a level 6 or up.

Hmm did they put a fill in when you got ur band? Mine was placed with a small fill to start off. How our diet is:

Preop 1200 cals till day of surgery

Post op:

1-2 days liquids (broth, Water, Jello, sf popsicles)

2-3 weeks liquids (cream Soups, pudding, etc) <~~ where i am

2 weeks puree/mushies

Then we get soft then reg.

So I am sure if you wanted to do more days on a liquid diet that is fine, it is ur body after all.:welldoneclap:

Good luck!!!

I keep liking my doctor better and better, lol. I was on liquids for 10 days. Mushies for 2 weeks, but in the second week I was to start adding other foods into my diet so that when I went for my first fill 4 weeks after surgery, I was eating mostly "regular" food. If you're that nauseous, etc., you should have called your doctor as soon as the first vomiting took place. You have to get in liquids. Your electrolytes are probably screwed up at this point due to dehydration in addition to your body being starved. If you're taking pain meds, stop them now. For some people they have an opposite effect (keep you awake, cause nausea etc.). Then get a call into your doc. I'd say call the answering service number TODAY and tell them your problems/symptoms and ask for a call back. That is not how you are supposed to be feeling.

My surgery date was the 26th. Like you I suffered from massive nausea until the following Wednesday, 4/1. My doctor said that some people respond differently. He gave me Zofran (I think that it the name of it for nausea) and it finally worked. In the first five days after surgery I had nothing but Water because I could not keep a popsicle down. He went ahead and moved me to first stage mushy foods (yogurt, cream broth, v-8, smoothies) and since then things have been better. I am still suffering from gas and indigeston occassionally (hope that goes away soon). My doctor said that if the nausea did not stop they would have to do anothert x-ray to check for blockage. Not to say this was the best way to lose weight but I had lost 14 lbs 6 days after surgery. (probably all Water weight though).

CALL THE DOC!!

There could easily be something wrong, and if not he may be able to order something that will help.

Thanks. I called the Dr. after the first time I vomited and got someone else that didn't have a clue, but I will call back on Monday to talk to her directly. I stopped taking the pain meds today and you were right no nausea at all today. I have been able to take my Vitamin, and Protein Drink today. Im sore but I don't care because I'm not nauseated! It probably was the liquid pain medication all the time. I am going to stay on liquids until I talk to my doctor. Thanks for the suggestions!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
