I am almost 4 weeks post-op and am on mushies. I 've been getting that "stuck feeling" or at least that's what I think it is- sometimes when I eat too fast. It's a pain in the center of my chest almost like I can't swallow the food down- until I take a sip of Water or try to puke some of it up. Why is happening? It doesn't happen with Soup , or Protein Drinks but it happens with string cheese, tuna, eggs. I think that I am probably eating too fast for my stomach- I don't have any Fluid in the band yet- my surgeon said it is in neutral position. Is this my body's way of trying to tell me to slow down? Any advice is welcome- still haven't lost anything since surgery- I know that Ia m not suppose to compare myself to others- but- It's frustrating!

I didn't exactly follow all the rules. I'm a bad patient! Is tuna and string cheese considered a mushie?? Soup doesn't get stuck because there is a lot of liquid with it. You may need to puree the things that are getting stuck and see if that helps. Slowing down and chewing more would also be advisable.

i have the exact thing happen to me. i am hungry and want to start digging in and then i feel that aweful thing in my chest. i have to stick my finger down my throat and get it out because i feel very uncomfortable and panicked when it happens. it happens when i forget that i have a band. i eat too big of bites too quick. i was banded on 2/16. i have no fill but i know there is some restrict already. if u are not losing any weight at all then u are eating too many calories. u should be losing 1-2 pounds a week now.

Please be careful and chew until the food is a liquid consistency. Don't make yourself vomit - especially this early in the process...it can cause a band slip. Your stomach is still adhering to the band and vomiting now can cause the band to move into the wrong position.

I had a slipped band and I wouldn't want that to happen to anyone else if they could avoid it.

After nearly one year, I'm still not an expert and eat too quickly from time to time. Trust me, you will slow down to avoid this pain when it happens often enough!

It sounds like you are eating too quickly. If you question how quickly you're eating or if the bites are too big, then more times than not the answer is YES! Early on when I would get stuck, drinking something only made it worse. The food was still stuck, and the Water was sitting on top of it. One thing that helped me was to take a walk around the block. I don't think it helped the food move quicker, it just got me out of the house and gave me something else to focus on.

I think it's good to go a month or two without a fill, because it gave me time to learn the new eating techniques. Trust me - it's easier now without a fill then it is with restriction. Take your time, listen to your body and you'll do well.

From April 11 - May 24 (my first fill), I didn't lose 1 single pound. But, I also didn't gain anything. From May 24 - July 20, I lost 10 pounds. I found my sweet spot on the 2nd fill, and lost 82 pounds from July 21 - present (2.5 pounds average per week). My advice is not to worry so much about weight loss right now, focus on preparing yourself for life after a fill! Good luck on your journey.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
