Anyone else scheduled for April 16th?

Thanks Peggy & Heather! I'm feeling much better today. I slept later this morning and drove to work. I think I need to slow down a bit. I thought since I had a desk job that I wasn't really exhausting myself. But I believe that thinking was flawed. It's still being at work, not taking it easy or relaxing. Plus I have a long commute every day. I'm going to give myself a break and not expect too much. Postitive thinking and all that good stuff!

I love this group & am so glad that I have you to share this journey with!

How is everyone?? I'm feeling normal, whoo hoo NORMAL!! What a joy normal is! I was able to drink plain Water yesterday which I haven't tolerated well since being banded. I'm flying high today, after that miserable awful day earlier in the week this is heaven.

Heather, So Happy to hear you are feeling good! Being able to drink Water is so nice. At first I could only get a little sip at a time in but now I can drink an ounce or two in a drink which feels great. It can only get better from here!

Dies anyone else notice that they can eat or drink easier and easier as time goes by? I am happy but scared at the same time. I want to go slow so there is no pouch stretching, but I am happy to be able to eat something that is going down easier. How long do you guys wait between bites?? I would say I waited 30 seconds or so at first, but now it is more like 15 when it is Soup or pudding. Weird question, but interested in how you all pace yourself when eating the mushy stuff.

Stuff is going down a lot easier....I'm on mushies currently and get to add soft solids at the end of next week. I'm glad everyone is feeling better, I know I feel great....I just have to watch I don't over-do it on the mushies....I know it's a time for healing but, I'm going to be totally bummed if I see a gain. =(

Things are going down a lot easier for me too! Glad to hear that is normal. We must be healing well. What is a soft solid food? I decided to make a baked potato for dinner tonight. Getting hungry just thinking about it. lol I feel great too...just wish I was not so hungry!

How was the weekend for everyone? Mine was good and bad, I cheated last night. I had two bites of pizza. I chewed, chewed, chewed and chewed some more. But I'm not suppose to have eaten anything. It went down fine, no problems.

Hi,

Still hanging in there, went for my 2 week follow up with Dr and he saw me for a total of 2 min's. Guess he thought I was doing great....and I am really. Trying not to be discouraged that my body had gone into starvation mode and on less than 800 cal per day I am gaining and losing the same 2 lbs. I'm on mushies now and am going to try to up the calorie count to see if I can start losing again. God's blessings to all the April bandsters

Just Tired

Just- if I didn't ask the few questions that I did, I swear I would've been out of there in 2 minutes too. I thought it was a waste of time. BTW, my Grandma lives in Pana,IL (near Taylorville) and my Mom is in Cereal Springs (near Marion).

I haven't gained... yet. I expect that will happen as soon as I start regular foods.

Peggy or where for outh thy Peggy?? I have some Scooby Snacks, if that doesn't grab your attention I don't know what will

Did someone mention scooby snacks!?? lol Heather, you crack me up!

I had my post of visit and it went fast too. I didn't even get to see my surgeon! The nurse saw me, said I was great and I was outta there! Then she asked if I wanted to do a "phone call visit" for my next appt? She said that all they do at the next appt is change my diet. so I said okay. I am ready for real food! Heather, you seriously had me contemplating how I could eat pizza! It sounds so good.

I made a tuna casserole last night and blended it in the magic bullet. It was soooo good. First time I have tried noodles since they are not mentioned on my list of approved foods. But i figured they were mushy...so I ate 1/2 cup and it was great. Anyone else eating noodles? I was half scared they would get stuck or something, but nope...went right down. Still worried I am eating too fast though. It definitely does NOT take me 30 minutes to eat. I am trying to work on that. How about the rest of you...how long does it take you to eat your meals?

Okay, time for a scooby snack...in the form of a SF pudding...I am hungry!:)

Glad I made you chuckle! I aim to please  I don't think that I'm a good buddy for sharing the pizza cheating. I mean isn't it going back to our old ways? Hmmm am I a loser bander and not a loser in a good way?

I just ate FF refried Beans with some mild green salsa. Yummy! I took my time, though no where near 30 mins. I really enjoyed them. Last night I ate one tiny piece of chicken I made for Hubby. Again I chewed the heck out of it, no problem what so ever.

Do you think the getting stuck or over eating is going to happen once we get a fill? Like am I getting to cocky thinking I can eat these things then once fill happens it's adios?!

Not a loser in ANY way. I was sort of glad to hear that the pizza went down okay. I ate a couple of cheez-it crackers today and they went down fine. Doesn't mean I should have eaten them...:( I think it is perfectly natural to think about or really wanna try some of our old favorite foods. It is a learning process and for the most part, I have been really on track.

Don't the refried Beans taste great? I am having them tonight for my dinner. With some cheese on top.

Have not tried chicken yet, but maybe soon. I found the V-8 broccoli Soup is really yummy! Already pureed and everything. It is highly recommended:smile:

I think once we get fills we may have to have liquids again for a day or so and then we will fill up on smaller amounts of food. HOPEFULLY. I think the key is to chew chew chew. But until my next appt I am only guessing.

Heather do you have a fill scheduled yet?

I think I might be getting a fill on May 19th. He said we'll talk about it then. So who knows I could be totally wrong.

I'm LOVING ff refried beans! Just ate some here at work for Breakfast. I forgot to make my Carnation Instant B-fast at home, I was running late.

I only lost 1 lb this week. I was down 3 as of Wednesday. I guess switching to mushies really changed things up. But I'm ok with a pound, any loss beats a gain. Though I expect a true gain will happen at some point.

My latest struggle is not drinking while eating or shortly there after. Right now I'm counting down the minutes till I can drink my Water. I think this is going to be a really hard habit to break.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
