Anyone else scheduled for April 16th?

Clear liquids means Water based things only. So no milk for the Protein Shake, no pudding or yougurt, no cream based Soups. It is actually harder than I thought to stick to that because broth is just icky and it only has 5 calories per cup, so I have been just making regular non creamy soups and eating the broth from that. I am supposed to be on Clear Liquids for week one, then for week two can progress to full liquids, week three pured foods and week four soft foods. But I may be moving up the full liquid phase a little bit.

I think that is why i was confused, My doc says I am on clear liquids but she says along with them I can have Protein Shakes with skim or ff milk. Everything else must be clear liquids. Guess each doctor modifies things on their own.

Yesterday was the worst for me. I was semi-nauseated and my port-pain was almost too much to take. Today I feel much better, I sorta wish I'd taken another day off work, but I was lucky to get the time off I did.

At least I have a desk job, so I'm sure I'll be fine...it'll just be a long day tomorrow.

I'm forcing myself to drink, drink, drink....I don't really feel like it at all.

Sorry to hear you had a bad day yesterday, I felt really tight and had a harder time drinking today. Not sure why, but it is harder to get stuff in than it was a day ago. Hope you do okay at work. Try to take it easy as you can:smile2:

I am starting to feel better. Last night I was able to sleep finally. I still have the gas pains but now they seem to go away when I lay down so sleeping is not an issue. Well I hope it still is not tonight either...LOL. I did not take any pain meds today but I do plan to take one tonight before I go to bed just to make sure that I can sleep. I have actually been hungry today. I have been cheating a little bit. I have decided that I just cant do the Protein Shakes with Water and have been using my fat free lactaid milk instead and I had a little bit of yougurt, in addition to my Soup broth that I have been eating. I just hope I dont get too hungry that this stuff does not satisfy me. i have noticed my scale finally going down some and I hope it keeps on going . Good luck to everyone and I hope everyone that has to go to work tomorrow or soon is OK.

Hi Everyone!

Well I'm back at work. I don't know how long I'll last. I'm having a very hard time with Water as well. Hot tea, sf hot chocolate, popsicles, broth and Crystal Light go down much easier. I'm so confused if I'm suppose to Protein shakes or not. I have a call into the Doc.

The gas pain is just awful. I'm burping like a 12 year old boy trying to impress his friends. It's so gross. I've walked at least 30 minutes per day. Plus a lot of pacing around the house. Does anyone know how long this is to last?

My port pain is more tolerable. Though it's still hard to get out of bed.

I just came back from my surgery in Mexico with Doctor Pompa from Limarp. I too was banded on April 16. I had a terrific experience!! I have never had surgery before so when I woke up in all that pain, I was, WHAT THE HELL DID I DO TO MYSELF? But I am feeling much better now with the exception of the incision of where the port is..OOWWWW I am sorry to say that I am a BIG baby and cried because of the pain up until yesterday.

Hey, Jen, Even though I am on clear liquids, my doc allows skim milk with the Protein shakes so you get the extra protein from the milk. That is probably why I like the chocolate truffle shake so much because it is really good with milk! So, according to MY doc, you are not cheating. I can't have cream Soups yet. Looking forward to Wednesday when I have my post op visit and hopefully move on to mushies! I notice you have lost 12 pounds! That is great. I am at 11 down for now, and feeling pretty good. Not too sore anymore and my incisions are just itchy as heck, but no pain. I am hungry at times though it is getting better the longer i go without real food. Weird.

I actually felt much better after returning to work today...it was weird. I feel pretty "normal" to be honest. I have a tad bit of port pain when I get up from a sitting position, and I burp a lot but all the gas pain seems to be gone.

My main issue at the moment is hunger (and I'm still feeling pretty lazy), I cannot figure this out to save my life. Everything sounds good except the stuff I can have (soup, Protein drinks). It's sad....I was hoping my surgery restriction would last at least a week. :crying:

I also grabbed some Soup from Target the other day, it's carrot/ginger...it tasted "ok" while I was eating it (only had about 1/4C) immediately after, I became nauseated. I never threw up, but the THOUGHT of that soup makes me feel like I'm going to be sick...so weird.

Wow, that is odd that the Soup would make you nauseous. Especially since ginger is supposed to be an anti nausea spice..LOL Oh well I guess we all react differently to certain foods. I personally have just been buying campbells light Soups and straining everything out of them. I have not moved on to the cream soups yet but boy I sure cant wait till I can. I have been craving creamy Tomato soup..YUM.

Yes the chocolate truffel is very good with milk and i never tried it with Water, cant imagine it would be nearly as good...LOL. The 12 pounds I have on my ticker is from the start of my journey to surgery day which was about 2 months. I have since lost 5 more pounds but I have not put them in my ticker. I was kinda waiting to see what the scale says at the doctors office on my two week follow up which will be on the 29th. So hopefully we will see a big jump on the ticker soon :crying: And your 11 pounds is great too. we just have to keep plugging away until we get where we want to be. Let me know how your post op visit goes. I know I cant wait till I can eat mushies either....but I have no idea what I will eat...LOL

Hey Jen,

Congrats on the 15 pounds!! That is awesome and I am so proud of you. Isn't it exciting to see the scale go in the opposite direction for a change? I already love my band and it isn't even really at work yet!! lol I am excited about tomorrows visit and already know what I will eat once I am allowed mushies: scrambled eggs, refried Beans, oatmeal, cream of wheat, mashed potatoes, etc. NOT all at once of course! lol But I have been reading what my surgeon allows and getting ready. I do know that only a little is gonna go a long way!

Hey, Heather, be sure to catch up with us when your boss isn't around or later when you get home. I have been thinking about you and wondering how you are doing.

Abbiepie, I can't wait to try Soup. Your post just reminded me that we are all different and that even stuff we liked BEFORE surgery may change after. You just never know guess.

Peggy- you have the BEST attitude! I love reading what you have to say. Thank you for being you :). Having said that I feel a bit embarassed by the vent/whining I'm about to post. But if I can't do it here where am I going to do it?

I feel like total crap today. I haven't slept well the last two nights. I think it's like some delayed stress over this big step I made. Or it could be because my period started today. Darn hormones! I walked 1 mile from the train to work this morning. It kicked my bootie, which is not normal...well before liquid diet it didn't bother me. I've walked every day since surgery for 20 -30 minutes. So I don't really understand why this morning was so rough.

I know this is all part of the process but I feel like a loser for not feeling better by now. I can't take off anymore time from work. What would I do at home anyhow, lay around all day and then not be able to sleep?! I just thought I was doing so well. Ugh! I need a Peggy attitude adjustment!

Hey Heather its Heather lol. I just wanted to say that I understand your laziness and crankyness. I had the same day yesterday and had a pitty party but decided today would be a better day. Something I attributed it to was my Vitamins I forgot to take them yesterday and did today and feel tons better. I think each day will bring us different challenges. Keep your head up and just think of the lbs youll be losing.

Good luck all, I had my first day at work today I am pooped now, I am a floor nurse so I had 12 hours on my feet. Looking forward to tomoorow.

Oh, Heather...believe me, I do NOT always have a good attitude! Especially when I am tired. And you should not feel at all like a loser! I cannot believe you walked a MILE! Geez, I don't think I could make it a quarter of a mile if I tried! Plus you have to realize that everyone heals differently. The liquid diet is not at all easy and definitely zaps your strength, especially if you are doing as much walking as you are. I hope you are able to get some sleep tonight. Try to take it easy and don't be too hard on yourself! You will get stronger and stronger as time goes by and you are gonna look sooo good because of your walking! Hang in there and give yourself credit for what you are getting through each day. You will get there. And once you can have something other than liquids, you will feel better too. Hope you have an easier day tomorrow. I will be thinking of you:smile:

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
