How much fill do you have?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on 1/8/09 and had no fill at that time. On 2/20 -6 weeks post-op I got first fill of 3cc’s after starting back on food I had no restriction and could eat whatever I wanted how ever I wanted. Doctor makes you wait for 2 weeks before adjustment. I went in on 3/6 and got another ½ cc, at this point no restriction at all. I just scheduled 3/20 for another fill.

How much do you have and in what quantity was it administered? When did you get restriction and how do you know when you have it?

One more question, is morning hot coffee a bad thing for restriction?

Thanks.

My first "sweet spot" came at fill #3 I believe 3.22CC's. I was doing great for two weeks, lost a bunch of weight then lost my restriction. My doc allows me to come in anytime after 1 week to get another fill. Fill number four was small but effective then like the previous fill, I lost weight and lost restriction quickly. Fill five lasted longest. I guess by then I had lost most of the fat around my stomach so weight loss was not having such a big impact on my restriction. My doctor is not real sure exactly how much I have now but it is just a little over 5cc's (10cc band). I have been at this level for over two months now. At this point I am almost at goal so weight loss has been very slow.

You know you have restriction when you are not hungry after eating a small amount of food (for me, approx. 3/4 C) and stay satisfied for several hours (at least four hours) and of course are losing weight. How you feel when you eat (getting stuck, PB'ing etc.) is not so much an indication that you need a fill as it is that you need to watch how and what you are eating.

A hot drink in the morning is actually good for those of us who are tight in the AM...I have a cup of tea every morning with no issues.

I have 6.5 CC in my band. Some doctors are conservative in regards to how much you get at a time. The 2nd and third fill I made sure he put more in. Its been at least 6-8 months and now I need another one.

I'm at 8.5/9cc Realize Band. Next week is my one year surgery anniversary and I have lost 91lbs. I have been at this level of restriction for about 3 months and am happy with it. I don't see myself getting an unfill anytime soon.

Honestly don't even remember how much fill I have (10cc band). Took 3 fills to feel restriction, went for a 4th which made me too tight and went back for an unfill. That was September of 2008. Been back to the doctors office several times but no more fills / unfills....

My surgery was August 11, 2008, and still no fill beyond the 3cc at surgery. The weight loss has slowed to a strandstill and I'm sure I'll get a fill in two weeks during my next appt. My doctor has told me as long as I was losing weight and not fighting hunger, he would hold off on the fills.

Preop weight: 323

Today: 234

Shirts, size XXXL to L

Personal Goal: 210

You can see the dates and amounts below. I've been very lucky to have some restriction with each fill. It didn't last long after the first two, but did once I hit 5cc. The way I know I have it is a slight tightness in the back of my throat. If I eat too big a bite or don't chew well, it causes pain in my chest, the slime starts and up it comes. Strange thing is, I can eat way more than the quarter to half cup I was told to expect. But I know I'm restricted and am eating significantly less than I was.

On the coffee in the morning, I can't eat anything until I've had something warm. Even scrambled eggs get stuck. After coffee or hot tea, less of a problem. And that is pretty much only in the morning.

I was banded on 2/18/09 and have had two fills so far...first one was 5cc's and the second was 1cc. I do feel the restriction, but I think I need another, I'm still able to eat more than a cupfull...I go back in 3 wks.

I have 2.5 cc in a 4 cc band.

Morning coffee or hot tea help me in the morning when I am the most restricted.

Just remember to chew chew chew chew and did I mention the need to chew.

Here is a thought for today "Patience would be a lot easier if it didn't take so long to get."

I was banded with the realize band on 10/8/09 I had several fills but didn't feel restriction untill I got to 7 I really didnt loose much weight till I got to 8 cc's. Now I'm loosing 2 to 3 lbs per week. I started at 249 I now weigh 210. I'm exactly where I want to be. Don't let the doctor tell you how much he's going to give you, you tell him. I would get no less then 1 cc per month. GOD Bless and good luck.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
