All I want is chocolate and comfort food at the moment....

So I had my unfill and I am feeling LOTS better, my appetite has returned and I can feel the need for that fill back to +2.5ccs (amazing what .5ccs can do!

But after a pretty horrific weekend in Victoria and reading/hearing about the horrific events that unfolded with the worst natural disaster (and in some cases not so natural:cursing:) to hit Australia. The urge to curl up on the couch with chocolate and follow what is happening to my state...whilst feeling helpless and lucky is pretty much what I did all weekend, well except for the chocolate, I've been pretty restrained.

Anyway for those who don't know Victoria erupted in bushfires on Saturday (which reached 46.4degC, I think around 118F with HORRIBLE winds and created fire conditions that were off the charts). There was a fire not far from me but THANKFULLY the local firefighters got it under control. Other areas of my state weren't so lucky. So Far 130 people have been killed though more people will follow, that is a given...(here is a newspaper Herald Sun Homepage | Victoria, National & Australian News | Herald Sun)

I know people who have lost their homes, friends, pets and others who are still facing threats from the fires still...

So please send positive vibes our nations way and thoughts and prayers for those who have lost so much.

Ro I've been glued to the TV too - the footage has been heartbreaking. I have been in tears too many times to count over the last few days.

Bug hugs mate - I totally get wanting to camp in front of the TV with chocolate.

Ro, I have been horrified with the news of what's happening in your area. I'm so sorry.

We get some pretty bad ones here in California. Usually the firestorms we have don't take a lot of people, just land and buildings. DH is a fireman for the state so I worry about him when he's out.

This is a tough time and you need to be gentle with yourself. Good for you for not dogging in to the chocolate (tho I'd be tempted too). It's the stopping that I'd have problems with.

I am so glad you're feeling better with your unfill. I've been dickering with the idea of getting one too. I'm going to wait til I feel better tho to decide. I've got a bad cold right now and I think that's actually my problem.

Hang in there. Lots of hugs and prayers to you. Stay safe!

Its so awful isnt it? We had fires streets away (our washing ont he clothes line got burned) and we're in the suburbs! we had the cars packed, ready to flee but the wind changed, which was fortunate for us, but was what caused the fires to really take off.

And sadly today we've had news that family friends have lost their home. Its awful, their daughter bought the maze and tea rooms business in Healesville and they sold their home to put money into her business and have just moved from Blackburn to Healesville to be nearer to help her out. Their new home has burned, and we're just praying that the maze doesnt burn because the business will be ruined if it does. Poor girl, her second son has just been diagnosed with Tourettes syndrome and her fourth child was stillborn a few months ago.

I resolve to stop complaining, bitching and moaning about living in Narre Warren and not being able to afford Camberwell. I've got nothing to worry about compared to some.

My son went off to school today with his whole months' pocket money to donate to a school effort and I'm donating blood this afternoon.

I called about donating blood, but because I am having blood collected for my surgery in April, I can't donate. I have a few bags of clothes packed up to drop off at the collection point at work though, and we've made a donation through red cross.

I want to do more, but don't know where to start.

Hey heartfire...that cold is most likely causing an increase in restriction so I'd wait until you get rid of it (provided you aren't too restricted)....I had the same problem weeks ago when I had a cold!

Hey Jachut...the Narre Warren fire hey??? All cause an idiot used an angle grinder on a day of total fire ban....glad you were ok. I am really sorry to hear about your friends home

I was a little worried about the Upper FTG fire that started Sat night, I thought the whole Dandenongs were about to go up and if they had....I don't even want to think about it.

I will be donating blood as soon as I get over this bloody illness I picked up on the weekend!

I figure they'll need it long term anyway!

I am also worried about Thompsons Dam and our drinking Water Jachut....(Fire threating Water, gas supplies in Victoria | Herald Sun) Scary!!

Thanks! That's kind of what I was thinking too. I decided to wait. I can get things down, I just have to be very careful and the mornings are the hardest. AND the more congested I am, the tighter I've noticed I am. If I take my med, once I start clearing some, I loosen up some.

I hope your Water supply is okay! I can't believe that idiot with the grinder. We get the idiot ones all the time too. It's the intentional ones that are the worst tho. They are intentionally trying to hurt people.

Please stay safe!

Heartfire I am now there with you having got a kickass cold/flu/virus/whatever the hell it is ....started losing my voice tonight, very husky and that unfill I had that left me open to begin with has now been tightened!!! ARRGHHH!!!

And I coughed tonight so much I vomited! UNBELIEVABLE!!!

I'll be trying not to do that again anytime soon!

As for the fires....there are a few that were deliberately lit....and these caused the deaths of a lot of people (Fire fury as man charged | Herald Sun). They were even reporting that they thought the arsonists were going back a relighting fires....reprehensible!

Kind of an eerie day in Melbourne today as the wind changed direction and all the smoke started to come towards the city and outer eastern suburbs, as I sit here typing, I can smell the smoke quite strongly (even through my blocked nose, etc). The moon also is what is referred to as a Bushfire moon, it is really red!!

Oh Ro! I'm so sorry you're sick now too. Thank goodness you got an unfill! Go get some cough suppressant! You don't want to be coughing that hard anymore!

I know that the cause of the beautiful sunsets and moon are horrible but they really do produce beautiful results! That pic is cool looking.

I'm glad they caught one person. They'd better guard him well tho! I can't understand the people that intentionally set these fires, killing a lot of people and damaging so much property and then to go back and re-light them????!!!!! I just don't get it!

Take care of yourself! Feel better soon!

Not coughing so much anymore....but I've got Larangytis and upper respiratory infection so I can't talk!!

Oh well.

But I had to go to a different doc as I couldn't get in at mine....I asked for antibiotic that would go down easier due to lap band and then proceeded to be lectured on my choice in lap band and not to eat around band etc...

I was like F*** Off!! I didn't come for a freaking lecture!! I didn't make this choice on a whim. You don't even know me so don't lump me into your generalisation that all fat people eat crappy foods at every opportunity and won't be able to stop eating junk at every opportunity even with a lap band!! For Crying Out Loud!! But as I couldn't talk I just glared at her and whispered when I could, I didn't do this on a whim and I am not an idiot!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
