Hola everyone!

First time here, first post but I've been reading the forum quite a bit. Just banded on Wednesday, Feb 11th. So far, so good. I only hurt when I am trying to get up or down from being seated or laying down. Hope it continues this way!

Banded 2-10-09 so 4 days out. It really is strange how different docs recommend different post-op diets. For me...only Clear Liquids for the first week. Must say it is not so bad tho as I really am not that hungry. I keep myself well hydrated and apparently that is enough for now. Also I am surprised at how tired I am. I have had several surgeries in my past and I guess I didn't think this would be like the others with the fatigue since it is not so invasive but apparently any procedure can kick your butt. LOL So I will just take one day at a time and slowly get back into the routine. I know walking is very important so I will gradually at distance a little each day. Keep me in your thoughts and keep the posts coming. I enjoy reading and comparing our progress.

Hello Everybody,

I was banded on the 5th and did great. I was very lucky (as I think I may be the old granny of this list) and had no pain, no shoulder pain, nothing. Then - the Monday after my surgery I started running fever. Called the doctor, went in, and to make a long story short - I have caught the creeping crud stuff that has been going around here in the Dallas area. He gave me strong antibiotics to prevent pneumonia. I thought I was going to split my incisions from all the coughing, but I was assured that coughing wouldn't hurt the band. I am finally a little better - but it was rough. The advantage is that I am just now getting hungry enough to be sick of liquids. Just four more days and I'll be on mushies.

I am looking forward to this support group very much. My family is there for me, in fact, when I was sick, my son and his wife made me stay at their house, but it isn't quite the same as having people who are going through the same thing.

Best of luck to all of you.

Penny

I was banded on 2/11. I've done okay but the last day or so, I've been starving. I really didn't have any appetite at all up until that point and now I'm ravenous all of a sudden. I can't wait to start pureed foods. I go back for a 1 week follow up on Thursday. As far as pain, it's pretty much better. Still a little bit of discomfort at the port site but nothing like it was. I was suprised at how much pain I had. It was much more than I expected. Just glad it's getting better.

Hi all..

I had my surgery on 2/10 and am on a clear and milky liquid diet right now. I hate it and I'm hungry. I have pain in my right side and I think my liver is bruised or something. I dont have pain anywhere else. I over-drank one day and I feel guilty about it, but I think I will be alright. I feel pretty good today, 5 days out. Tomorrow I will be like new and will start walking even farther.

EDIT: I started out at 326, dieted to 312 pre-op, and weigh 302 post-op 5 days.

i was banded on 2/3. i was allowed to start mushies one week out and have had no problems at all. i have not tested it, but i feel no restriction eating canned chicken with light mayo, cottage cheese, tomato Soup, etc.. i actually ate a lean burger with cheese last night. no bun, just chewed it slowly and thoroughly. i did great and felt fine. i have stayed well under 1ooo cal and using the Unjury chicken soup and fruit punch Protein bullets, i am able to get 60 to 80 gms of protein in. i hope i am doing it right.peg

I was banded on 2/13/08 and I can't wait for mushies. I can't wait for this gas to break down and fluids go down easier. The sooner I feel back to normal, the sooner I can start working my ass off.

Hi Peggy,

You r eating mushies already? I was banded on 2/4 and was told to stay on a liquid diet for 3-4 weeks, and I am dying I really want to eat. I had a hard time at first, but mentally I am pushing through. Have you had any reaction since you started eating? I feel fine, no pain, just a little hungry. Have lost 10 pds already..that I am grateful for. How has the weight loss been?

Hi, I was banded on Jan. 30th everything has gone real smooth, managed to get through the first week just liquids now I am on the two weeks of mushies. However I have been so hungry and so sick of sweet shakes and just Soup that I have eaten things like cheese even chewed some broccoli, and a couple of pretzels. All which went down very easy, but now I feel scared and guilty. Can anything bad happen to me because of not following perfect? Is the purpose of the mushies so you don't throw up or is there another reason? Has anyone else ate food they shouldn't have? I hate to think I am the only one.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
