Hi. This is my first post. I was banded Friday 01-30-2009. I would apperciate any advice that can be given. I got thru the hard part. I was scared to death of the surgery and that only took about 27 minutes. I checked into my hospital at 7:20am and I was home by 2pm that very same day. I am sore but thinking thats mostly from the gas. I lost 8 pounds on my pre-op diet. So my starting weight was 251.6 and when I weighed in on friday it was 243. I am looking for any help or any advice that anyone can give. this is my first post and I am still learing the sight. I wish everyone luck. I am in Jacksonville FL.:tongue2:

Keep taking in your liquids slow. When you transition to 'full' , liquids (creamy Soups, thinned mashed potatos) take it slow, you do not want to heave while you are healing. Walk around alot, drink your Water. I did well with Frozen drinks and popsicles the first couple of days, the cold helps the swelling. Also Hot Drinks in the morning are easier to go down. You most likely will swell during the night, don't gulp anything. A bag of frozen peas or corn held on the outside of your stomach can help with swelling too. Good Luck with your weight loss journey.

Hi Kimmie, and congratulations on getting your band! Right now, the best advice I can give you is to follow your doctor's instructions. Walk, drink fluids as you can tolerate them, stick to the diet you were given, and take your pain med as you need it. Baby yourself the first few days, and you'll heal faster. Wear those old sweats, relax in an easy chair, no heavy lifting, etc. It will help your port area heal faster. You may experience some shoulder pain from the gas used to "inflate" your abdominal area, but I didn't, so it's not a given.

Also, learning some of the terms used on LBT is helpful...bandster hell - the time after you heal until you get some good restriction when some people experience a lot of hunger (it wasn't bad for me), PB (Productive Burp) - when you're on solids and eat something that comes back up, Sliming - heavy mucus that comes up when you have something stuck. You don't have to worry about most of these issues just yet, but you'll see these terms repeated on the forum.

Good Luck, and keep reading and posting!

Kimme, be patient with yourself and the process. Give your body time to heal. And try really hard to get all your fluids in.

Good luck!

Thanks for the great advice. I do not go back to the doctor till feb 16 @ 11:15. I am trying to get all my fluids in. I am also trying to take it easy, but that is not really in my nature. I am off of work and want to do everything. I am still having alot of gas pain and think everything would be much better if that would go away. LOL.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
