So... when you had your child out of wedlock, you stayed HOME as well while taxpayers supported you? :frown:

(Once again, roll your eyes.)

Yes, I did. I was 19 and not married to his father yet, and I was living alone and got help from welfare and foodstamps and medical ins. I had that help for a year and a half. Then when we got married, we repaid it. (just the welfare)That was 28 years ago.

So now you can see why I could not cast a stone at her. And you should be careful not to as well, for you never know what tomorrow holds for you. Anyone of us could be in need of help for a time.

patty, in todays time, what woman can afford to stay home and not work?? It is nearly impossible unless all of our husbands are millionairs! And mine sure isn't!

Any mom can work from her own home if she would be creative. Daycare, catering, selling on ebay, cake decorating, tutoring, giving piano lessons, crafts, telephone counseling, whatever. Use your talents and start a business.

I think daycare is good for kids. It is good for them to be with other children and learn social skills. You can't watch your child 24 hours a day. Of course they are going to miss you at first, but eventually they get used to it. I also think children are better off not being with their parents 24 hours a day 7 days a week. They need to get used to living in the world. I think it makes it easier on them when they grow up.

I don't agree. From birth, babies need their moms. Daycare is fine for a few hours a week, but some moms leave them there 40 hours and sometimes more. They have plenty of time to get used to living in the world when they are old enough to go to school.

You said the gov. takes our kids at 5 to go to school? You make that sound like a bad thing! That's so funny! Kids have to go to school!

Kids don't have to go to school. There are many, many families that homeschool their children. What do you think people did before public schools came into being back in the late 1800's?

Yea, I agree. I am in nursing school, so maybe I can get some disablity for the next few years until I finish?

Do you like nursing school? I've always wanted to go to nursing school, but just never did. Now, at 47 I sometimes feel like its an awful lot of money to invest to retire in 18 years.

Finally, something we can all agree on. Nothing is more crazier than being single while living off government assistance, staying with your parents for reduced rent and bringing 8 more children into the world, while you cannot financially provide for the 6 kids you already have.

If that doesn't say crazy, I don't know what does???:frown:

I meant crazy people who will hurt your children mentally, physically, sexually, etc., Not 'crazy' people who make a selfish or poor decision for themselves and really don't have any ill intent to harm anybody else. This mom didn't set out to get the country upset with her. She loves her children and wants to be a good mother.

You sound like a truly devoted mom who sacrifices to be with her child. I admire you for that.

Someone who chooses to do day care, because they WANT to be with children and ENJOY being with children, while teaching them, and preparing them for school, is still FAR better for a child than being with a Mom who would prefer being challenged by a job SHE enjoys. Not everyone wants to be a teacher or a day care provider. It does not mean they love their children less.

I was in second generation kids before I quit. The kids I cared for in the beginning, bringing their kids----and they did not grow up to be uncaring humans or anything because their parents worked.

My DD is a single Mom, and I take care of my Granddaughter. If I were unable, we would do some serious research, and find her a stable, safe day care environment to spend her days in.

It seemed offensive to me when you said you did not believe in day care. If you used it to support yourself and kids, then obviously you believed in it from one side.

I will have to see what I can find, but I watched a 20/20 I believe it was that was focused on home schooled children, and as adults there was a large percentage of them who said they felt they were ill equiped in the college settings, in personal relationships, while their grades were comparable, the maturity levels were not.

There are pros and cons to each side.

But can you really see Octo Mom home schooling all 14 kids?????

You (patty) thought the woman who signed over her entire check was missing out. Well Octo Mom has settlement money, but opts to be away from her kids, going to school to prepare for a job that will take her away from them as well. What is the difference?

Kat

I never said that if they choose that path that they would love their children less, nor did I say daycared kids grow up to be uncaring. I just believe that kids who are not given to someone else to be cared for their fist 5 years are more secure and have had a better opportunity to have the kind of example set for them that their parents choose to give them.

I felt that I could not give my children to someone else to care for them, because even though people look wonderful on the outside, you never really know them on the inside. I can't tell you how many times someone I thought was a sensitive, caring person turned out to be hiding something I never knew about them. Why just the other day I learned that my husbands, cousins son, age 23, got arrested for child porn. He was always a great kid to me. Sensitive, caring, kind. Who would have thought? So, yes, I did not hesitate working at doing daycare, because I knew myself from the inside and knew I would be good with other peoples children, but you never know if someone is who they make themselves out to be.

I will have to see what I can find, but I watched a 20/20 I believe it was that was focused on home schooled children, and as adults there was a large percentage of them who said they felt they were ill equiped in the college settings, in personal relationships, while their grades were comparable, the maturity levels were not.

And I read that 1 out of every 4 high school graduates that took the GED after they already graduated failed it. As far as their maturity levels not being comparable, I don't see it in the large circle of homeschoolers that I know. But, what I do see is Homeschooled kids don't have the terrible peer influences in their lives and they tend to keep out of trouble more than public taught kids.(especially the teens)

There are pros and cons to each side.

Maybe you're right here, but knowing what it's like being on both sides at different times while raising my children, I choose the homeschooling side.

But can you really see Octo Mom home schooling all 14 kids?????

I can't imagine that she would homeschool, but I wasn't reccomending it for her either.

Going to school would be only temporary for her. She said she had another year. And I was saying that she could work out of her home, which would keep her there for them.

Another Octuplet Mom in LA?

By MIKE BRODY, MyFox National

LOS ANGELES - The doctor who helped Nadya Suleman get pregnant with octuplets has reportedly transferred at least seven embryos to another patient. According to the Los Angeles Times, a woman in her late 40s went to Dr. Michael Kamrava hoping to become pregnant with one baby.

The Times now says she is 5-months pregnant with quadruplets and hospitalized. The paper adds that the woman has no insurance so she was transferred to a county hospital where she will stay until the births which might not be for two or three months...

Another Octuplet Mom in LA?

California, send the bills to the Dr. Michael Kamrava!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
