Octuplets and SIX other children??!!!

Recommended Posts

I'm not one to judge others without knowing them/all the facts, but this one burned me!!! I watched the announcements of the Octuplets being born, and thought; well it must have happened due to follicle stimulation because no Dr. would do invitro with 8 or more embryos. Yesterday I watched as the experts gave their opinions with the same conclusion I came to. There was no way any of them would have done invitro with that many eggs and they would turn someone away who wanted that, so they also felt it must have been egg stimulation that caused this.

Now this morning I learn that the mother, who is currently living at home with her mother, already has six children (we know nothing about the father)!!!! And here's the kicker...it WAS invitro!!!! Holy Cow!!! I get that there are crazy people out there, so I'm writing the mom off as nuts, but what the heck happened to regulating and having rules about ethics for this for the Drs.??!! What's next...cloning? Know that I have family members and friends that have been helped by fertility specialists, so I know the benefit in using one, but this guy crossed the line. Just MO.

I was floored when I heard she has 6 other children. Why if you already have 6 would you want invertro?:rolleyes: When I was little I actually wanted 12 kids. I wanted 6 of my own and to adopt the other 6. But reality set in when I got married and started having kids. I still think adoption is a good way to go. So if you have 6 and want more why not adopt? Or become a foster parent. This is MHO.

Some women collect shoes, some collect jewellery, and some collect babies, I guess...... I personally think that there should be moderation in all things.

Yeah, I guess after I heard all the docs describe all the bad statistics and how steeply they go up with each additional child you carry (death, lifelong medical problems) it just made me feel the doc that did this was totally irresponsible (the docs I heard only implant 3-4 max) and I couldn't believe they aren't self-regulating this.

Okay, um, WHY would a woman who's living at home with HER mother even GET invitro??? Just on those facts alone, that is the height of irresponsibility.

So who is paying for them, US?????

i had a few failed attempts @IVF & dh and i just decided that kids weren't going to be in our future - so we just stopped. if we really wanted a kid - adoption was an option; we just decided that our life was fine the way it was.

that said - i am SHOCKED that she was able to be implanted. our facility was regulated the way our countries financial industry should have been. i am amazed, really i am.

the financial / personal screening that took place was tougher than applying for a mortgage, which i had no problem with. how this woman got past such is more the issue i have.

i find her selfish, especially if she can not support the 6 she already had - but thats' MO. i think a good hard look at the fertility facility who implanted her deserves a good investigation.

luluc- Yeah I remember one of our good friends going through invitro and they said it was extensive. I was going to say I don't know that she wasn't supporting the kids (and maybe her Mom too) but then I saw...

WTF? I remember my friends telling me how much invitro costs...a year and a half is longer than 9 months of gestation...so that's where my tax dollars are going!!!

That is utterly f**ked up! That woman is whacked!!

I don't think anyone would argue that...I'll agree the docs are too!! I hope this leads to some regulation.

The thing is, nobody knows yet how she did it. It was said she COULD have done it herself with hormone stimulation or some such thing. People all over the US are asking how any doctor worth his salt would implant SO MANY embryos into a woman who already has six kids!

But if she's living with mom (and dad is MIA) then I can't help but wonder who the HELL is paying for all this??? Then I see that it's California and just go, hmmmm.

Could you imagine? Fourteen kids, all seven years old and younger.

All the TV news stories I saw said the grandmother issued a statement saying her daughter was implanted through invitro and made the decision not to selectively terminate any of them, not in those words. How does the hospital who has been helping her since her third month not have the full story? I'm sure they know and it will all come out in the end. Hmmm...

Yes, I just found a story on FOX that said that. And that she works at a fertility clinic! :rolleyes:

This is wrong on so many levels. It is hard fathom what the medical doctors were thinking of when they did this medical procedure on this woman.

Six children already and 8 more. Not that having a lot of children is wrong. Not being able to support the children you already have and then adding 8 more is wrong. If you cannot afford 6 how will you afford 8. :redface:

Let's hope that the grandfather come back from Iraq unijured, because this family will be screwed if they don't have him for their support system.

Very strange situation. I don't know who did the IVF, tho Kaiser might be doing it now, they weren't 5 yrs ago when we went through it. We had to go outside and self-pay.

I know in our situation, our doctor was considering implanting all of our embryos. (Pretty rare for him as he normally doesn't implant more than 4.) Our odds were pretty pitiful and we had 7 embryos. We lost 3 overnight before implantation. We implanted 4 so we had the potential for 8 if all 4 embryos split and became twins. We would have had 4 sets of twins! :thumbup: That, of course is in the most rarest of situations. We would not have done selective abortion. We didn't have to worry about it as none "took" and we lost all 4 embryos.

I was shocked when I heard she already had 6 young kids at home! At first I was thinking maybe she was like that Jon and Kate show, they just wanted one more and got 6! Now I'm not so sure! No wonder she doesn't want her name out, then people can find out all about her and she doesn't want that!

It'll be interesting as more gets out.

~~~~~~
And Beth, don't EVEN get me started on this state! I'm so mad right now! :redface: If the Governor gets his way, the potential is there for DH and I to lose everything we've worked for all of our 21yr marriage! :)
      Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?
      2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜
        I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍
      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!
      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!
        I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗
        Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
