First fill...went wonderful!

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I had my first fill. I started getting nervous on my way over to the doctors office...I guess because of what I've read on here about it being painful.

It was so easy!!

i went in and first of all my port is no where near I thought it was lol! He laid me back on the table and used some numbing medication which I didn't feel and than he inserted the needle which I barely felt and sat me and made me sip Water until I felt a tightening in my chest and then he removed some saline until I felt the Water go through my stomach. It was so simple! I would say it was about 10x's worse to give blood.

I'm not sure what my fill is now but I'm on liquids the rest of today and I'm pretty hungry!

I want another fill!

Thank you so much for posting this. I needed to hear it today! My first fill is scheduled for Monday, February 2nd. I have read a lot on the boards and was really scared. Your post makes me look forward to it.

My weight loss has started to slow, and I can't wait to feel some restriction.

Thanks again! Good luck on your journey!

I have had two fills and both were done without a numbing agent and both were completely painless. No problems at all. I think normally problems occur when the person doing the fill can't find or get to the port well. Just don't look at the needle. It may make you anxious.

My first fill was also a breeze! They did have a hard time finding it at first, and actually I had to sit up, slighty leaned back for them to find it. I had no numbing med, and barely felt the stick. I hope subsuquent fills are this easy. I have had some restriction and have actually lost 3.5 lbs. since my fill on 1/21/09. But, I can tell this is not as much restriction as I would like.

Surgery was on 12/18/08 and 24 lbs. gone so far!!!!!1

I had my first fill last Thursday - 4cc in a 10cc band. I had some bleeding and Fluid loss but it wasn't bad.

I was back the next day getting some removed because even Water was giving me problems. They pulled all the fill out and it measured 3.5 cc. They removed first 1cc then an additional .5 cc. I have 2cc fill now and am able to eat slowly. I am getting hiccups and getting food stuck so I'm still learning what to eat, how to eat more slowly and take tiny bites and CHEW CHEW CHEW. If I forget, I am reminded painfully!

I have had two fills by two different docs; one was my surgeon, the other was my new band doc. Each have different approaches - no numbing by either and I didn't feel a thing by either. I finally do have pretty good restriction and can tell the difference.

This is soooo worth it!

Good Luck to everyone.

Had my first fill on 1-28-09 and it was a breeze. No numbing medicine and i really didn't feel anything. The doctor was very good. My band was placed Oct 20. Good luck to us all finding our sweet spot. I am so looking forward to it.

I had my first fill today and it was ok but not a breezie. Its stung a little when they put the numbing stuff in. Then it was numb so when she pushed on my port it felt funny. I actually giggled when she pushed on it! They tried to do it but needed a longer needle! I was spooked! So they poked me and I heard it. Like a small thud. I drank a cup of Water and on liquids for 2 days now. It wasnt that bad but wish it was more pleasurable lol!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
