Banded Jan 20th

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Jan 20th and came home on the 21st. Some pain in my chest area and the incisions but nothing unbearable. I don't know if the chest area pain is a gassy pain or not. I am on Clear Liquids until tomorrow and then I start full liquids, any ideas on the different types of things to eat?

While at first I could barely manage the Meal Replacement shakes, eventually I could have things like Diet V-8 Splash, thin Soups (strained), broth, and SF Jello. That was all I wanted for most of that week. However, toward the end I did want something a little more. Then I started drinking the broths when I made roasts or similar meals for my DH. I cooled the broth to get the fat to congeal, removed it, and warmed up the rest for a taste similar to what my family ate.

For instance, we have an old family recipe that starts with saving all the leftover juices and small bits from when you cook canned vegetables. We save it in a freezer container layer by layer. When the container is full, we add bits and bones from beef roast leftovers we also save. I made up this "Pot Liquor Stew" and strained it with a collander so I could have just the broth. It's thicker than plain old Soup, and a lot more savory. Helped me make it through those last few days until the doc said I could have mushies. Those Depression Era recipes sure are relevant for us right now.

I am still on full liquids until the 4th of February. My BIL was banded the same day as I was (the 20th) and he's been liquifying all sorts of foods and drinking his meals. He's had biscuits and gravy, chicken fajitas, tacos, meatloaf and other regular type meals.

I have been a bit more conservative. I have had Cream of Wheat Cereal, chili that was blended to liquid and some beef stew that was blended to liquid. I guess I'm going to have to get a bit more adventuresome because this same food over and over is going to get real boring.

I would just recommend experimenting and just make sure it is in liquid form while you are on full liquids. I am looking forward to the soft/mushy stage coming up.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
