Inauguration... what did you think?

Regarless of what your politics are, you've got to admit that today is a pretty spectacular day in US political history. I'm not even american and I was glued to the tube watching Obama's swearing in and his mesmerising speech (man, his speech writers are good!).

I was really struck by his focus on taking more personal responsability for our lives in order to get out of this dark cloud we're all in right now. It kind of fits with my my decision to get LB - instead of focussing on why i'm fat and how I got ther and who contributed, I'm doing something about it. It's about working hard to get what you want, instead of relying on something else to fix your situation.

As you can tell, i was quite inspired by Obama's Speech. Would love to hear other's reactions.

Didn't watch. I don't even watch when it's someone I voted for, so sure as heck wasn't going to tune in today. Besides, I had the house to myself and needed to get some work done. It was a perfect morning to get ahead on the payroll taxes!

I just have to say, God help us in the next 4 years!!!

Well, he's impressive and well spoken and i thought it was all very amazing and a moment in history to take note off, whether you're an American or not.

I've still got the giggles over the Bushisms that were on TV the other night...

"rarely is the question asked... is our children being educated".

oh boy.

tee hee.

I think he did an excellent job. It was a wonderful moment in history, one that I will remember. He is well educated and articulate and seems to be for change and responsibility. Hopefully these are times of change and acceptance.

Ha! I like the one, and I'm paraphrasing since I don't remember word for word: Terrorists are smart; and so are we. Terrorists stay up all night wondering how to hurt America; and so do we!

Today was GREAT!!! America is in the crapper and if we can be united by our new President then I say to the whining Republicans like Heartfire - we need to band together not be ugly and negative today. Unbelievable.

President Obama has his work cut out for him cleaning up after Bush. Yikes!!!!! Just hope people are patient and realize that things can't turn on a dime.

My DH was saying the same thing, that the guys at work were talking like he only has 2 days to fix everything or he is a failure!

I don't think we should expect him to jump in front of a train of disaster hurtling down the track----but give him a chance to get going and get up ahead and divert things.

He is a man, not a miracle worker. Just imagine what he could do if he had gone into office with things as well of as Bush did!!

I was saddened to hear of Sen. Kennedy having the seizure during the luncheon, you could see that it really upset President Obama.

Was just nice, I think regardless what your politics are to see that many people come together for a good thing---as opposed to a disaster.

Oh and SnT, Luluc and others from the PJTP thread.....posts like #2 was what prompted the thread to be started!!!

It was very impressive. He is an inspiring orator and an obviously intelligent and thoughtful man. All of these things are a change from the last administration!

The NY Times magazine did a spread on folks in the Obama administration... I think his chief speechwriter is 27 years old. WOW. I feel old.

Well, Susan. We are about the same age.

For the first time in my life, I am older than the president (just as you are). It seems that he basically writes his own speeches.

No matter your politics, it was an impressive day

With that said... what the heck was that poem about. Our new poet lauriet did not do herself proud with that one.

Well said Kat!!!

He has all these super high expectations to live up to that are completely unrealistic. I hope that our instant gratification world can give him the time he needs before judging him a failure.

Amen x2!!!!! To be that negative today, of all days, is impressive...not. I too felt for Kennedy. I've heard that he was talking an hour later, I think. Inauguration day seems like it's 24 hours; hopefully he was just tired/overextended.

BAH!!! 27? I could almost have a child that old; aww man! Did anyone else think that the Bushes looked like, "get me to Texas!!!"?

I thought the same thing about the PL but I figured I was such a numbers nerd that I was getting the meaning!!! I also thought, "I guess Maya Angelou was busy?"

Well said Kat!!!

Very good point, Babe!!! I do feel like he hit the ground running Nov 5. I do not envy him...that's for sure.

I didn't vote for Obama....but he's my president now. His speech was, like most of his past ones, impressive. I hope he can get America back on her feet.

Did anyone else think that the Bushes looked like, "get me to Texas!!!"?

Well....it was pretty cold there, no? I don't know how long I could have stayed out in that kind of weather.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
