Still Cant Stop Eating!!!

Recommended Posts

Banded last july, lost 30 lbs pre-op. have had 2 fills{4.8 cc in a 10 cc band} I know Im supposed to concentrate on protien but meat makes me throw up most of the time, vegtables too. Idrink milk &eat Protein Bars but can still eat chips & candy. Ive developed a strange addiction to Quaker rice cakes. Why do I keep throwing up when I try to eat the "good" stuff, but I can eat almost any chips, candy or other carbs with no problem?!!! Can anyone talk some sense into me? :) I was going to the gym every day, but havent been able to drag my butt out in the snow.

I heard this somewhere...."Just because you CAN eat it, doesn't mean you SHOULD eat it".

I am worried very much about getting in the same spot you are...I haven't been banded yet.

Something I read in my DR office is that if you can't keep your Protein down but can get the "bad" stuff down you might be too tight.

Also and I know this isn't easy but the band is not a cure all. It doesn't change our mental issues of thinking we need or want the crap. That is going to be a tough one on me. I am meeting with a psychologist to help me work on that. No matter what else you are or are not eating if you continue to eat chips and candy you are sabotaging yourself...that is what a few people have told me through all the appointments I have been to.

You have to choose to eat the right things and that is hard but this isn't going to work with out that key piece. Maybe for the time being try different Proteins like cottage cheese. Beans. Tofu. eggs. I know there are web sites that can help you better with ideas.

I know it's tough and there is lots of support here for you! Also I am hoping if I write it out and post it it will keep ME more accountable!! lol

Good Luck!

~Amy

My doctor's office has a poster that shows if you are eating a lot of slider foods (chips, chocolate, ice cream, etc.) You're too tight. Get a slight unfill and see if that helps.

If you are following the "rules" by cutting your meat into tiny bites (pencil-eraser sized) and chewing very well (at least 20 times) and not drinking during meals (that can be a double edged sword...washing stuff through or, if something is already at the opening, making you PB) then you are too tight. Have you tried doing just liquids for a day or two, then mushie, then soft, and then trying again with Protein? And when you say meat, do you mean red beef? Remember poultry (chicken, turkey) and fish (tuna, salmon, tilapia) are all Proteins too. Even pork (ham, pork chops, etc)....so try some variety. But chew chew CHEW whatever you select. If it still comes up, get a slight unfill.

You are smart to stop this now!

I agree with the posters above you may need a little unfill, or you may need to chew more slowly and take smaller bites. Not that I'm an expert, I'm only 2 months out and not restricted yet, but that's what I've read here on other posts.

For motivation to exercise, check out sparkpeople.com. There are several 10 minute exercise videos on the website. Its all free. Maybe you can commit to 10 minutes a day at home and work your way back up from there.

Siren, it sounds like your to tight. I would discuss your concerns with your doctor and follow their recommendation. Maybe a slight unfill will do the trick. In the mean time, can you drink a Protein Drink?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
