How long after surgery did you wait to return to work/school?

Recommended Posts

Good Morning everyone!

I found out last friday that I will be banded Feb. 16th and I was really trying to get my surgery on a friday so that I would have to take too many days off from work. (As you can see that didnt' work out considering my surgery date is a monday:thumbdown:) I just wanted to know how long did everyone wait before returning to work? I have a desk job so I figured I could probably return ealier than someone who is moving around a lot. In fact, I was thinking of trying to go back to work that thursday. What's your advice on that?

I agree with mansaw. I think a week is a safe bet. I have a friend who had surgery on Friday and went back to work on Monday, didn't skip a beat. She's about my age, size, and we had the same doctor. I thought it would be the same for me. I needed an entire week off.

I work at a desk too, but the problem I had was that when I got up to walk anywhere, I had to hold my stomach up with hands to prevent pain and of course, I couldn't go around work hoisting my gut up and holding it like I was cradleing a baby. LOL After a week, I was good to go!

Good luck to you and congratulations on a new begining.

I had surgery on Friday and went back to work the following Tuesday. It was no big deal other than be a little tired and grumpy the first day back to work.

When I asked this same question, it was recommended to me that as much time (min. a week) I could get off the better.

I was banded on the 23rd of Dec and didn't return to work until January 5th. My boss did let me work from home for 3 days.

But I enjoyed the time to rest, recouperate and get to know my band.

Besides being at a desk job I would also strongly consider your work atmosphere. My office has been very supportive through the whole process so far.

That is my 2 cents worth of advise

Good luck and you will find the band is awesome!

I took 1.5 weeks to return to work, light duty until tomorrow. I'm not going back to school never ever again, unless I can get a raise out of it.

It's REALLY individual, but I had surgery on a Friday am and back to school Tuesday afternoon, although I'd have liked a little more time off (week 1 we were Clear Liquids only...no Protein etc....and it was a little hard to pay attention to dull lectures when I was starving!)

I had mine done Thanksgiving week on a Monday. We had off Wednesday through Friday. I took a week, but only missed two days of work. :sneaky:

I took two weeks vacation. I stayed in the hospital for 2.5 days. I really di not feel great until day 7post-op and by then I was driving, shopping, and cleaning the house.

Having the extra week off to just kick it was really nice. By the time I went back to work, I was energized and ready to go.

I have an office desk job. No heavy lifting.

I have an office job, so I was fine to go back to work after 5 days. Really, by the 5th day I was going to the movies and playing with my friends dog, but my boss told me just to stay home until that following week.

I have booked 2 weeks holiday as, not knowing how I am going to be, I can't afford to be less than 100%. My job involves a lot of driving, walking around hospitals and doing presentations/standing. Nobody is going to know about my op, so I will be expected to go full tilt on my return from my "holiday".

Anyway, will be nice to chill for a fortnight :(

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
