Need a surgeon in Brisbane area/

Recommended Posts

Okay, so basically my surgeon gave up on me in Melbourne. He would see me frequently, but he didn't think I was loosing weight fast enough and gave up on me. x_x

And then I got a job in Brisbane, so I had to move. I asked him to refer me to someone up here and ...well, he didn't. o.o He just sent a letter saying that I was unco-operative and that was about it. I don't even know where I packed the stupid thing.

It's been months since I saw a surgeon now, and I know my band is a bit too tight, but it wasn't till a few days ago that I realized that I DID know where toa sk about it >.> So if anyone has a surgeon in Brisbane, or knows of one, that deals with the public patients who got a lapband, please let me know.

Ses,

Dr George Hopkins- Holy Spirit Northside and RWBH is pretty good and well known. He can band in the public at the Royal but generally most see him as a private client at Chermside.

You can email his practice as well which is what I initially did when I wanted a second opinion. They were very obliging, non-judging and extremely supportive.

Don't expect a lengthy chat however as he is very quick in/out nor does he expect you to jump the hoops in attending dietiticians, psychology etc.

Another quiet achiever is Dr Carmody who works out of the Mater. Barb

Hi Ses, I dont know what the process is at my surgeons office if you havn't been banded by him, but here are his details

Dr Philip Lockie

Brisbane Private Hospital

259 Wickham Terrace Brisbane 4000 Phone (07) 3834 7080

Email info@drphillockie.com.au

Phil is lovely and his practice also runs a free monthly support group for patients, that is very helpful, especially if you've been struggling. I've only been banded for 2 months myself and have only had one fill/adjustment but it was a very straightforward process and it didnt hurt a bit! Call his office, dont put up with feeling uncomfortable.

Hope you find someone to help you.

cheers,

katie

Thanks!

My surgeon was frustrated, I think, because I wasn't loosing weight as fast as he expected. ._. I was kind of shattered by his bad report though. I HAD been trying. I'd been trying to get the band since I was 16, no way was I going to let it slip by.

Hi Ses, try Dr Phil, he really is lovely. I just looked at your ticker and it says you've lost 40ish kgs thats a huge amount, what time period did it take you to lose that and when were you banded?

August 2nd, 2007. So it's taken a fair bit of time...at least by lapband expectations. lol

honey, dont be hard on yourself, your melbourne doctor, well, he sounds like an ass. you've lost 44kgs in, what 64 weeks? my doctor says that .5 - 1kg a week is considered 'good' and healthy loss. my rough math says that you've averaged .7kg a week. 44kg is an amazing amount of weight to have lost. My starting weight is close to yours and I'll be super happy if I progress as well as you have. Keep it up!

I see Dr Copp. He was a little 'unhappy' that I hadn't lost more weight last time he saw me. I think he was expecting me to lose as fast as most of his patients, but I have PCOS which has slowed things right down. I also have dropped dress size, but not a whole lot of kilo size. If a doc is only going to go by kilo size, then they are going to be unhappy with me. Dr Copp is great, but if you aren't losing overly fast, then I'd suggest someone else.

Dr Copp is pretty cool, I have always been more than happy with him.

Sunwyse... I suspect the reason he imight have appeared to be "unhappy" is, he has seen women with PCOS, IR or type II do really, really well. So perhaps, just maybe he expects that all PCOS ladies will get the same sorts of results? Just a thought.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
