January 19th

Recommended Posts

Hello January 19th bandsters, I hope everyone is feeling ok. I had really bad gas but everyone has given me alot of advice. If you have gas take some gas-x extra strenght strips and some tylenol fast acting , it worked wonders for me. The gas pains have almost gone away and the gas too. I had left shoulders pains right after surgery and the Dr. said it was gas. It's very uncomfortable and painful. My port area hurts but I'm tolerating it, I guess it comes with the territory. Looking forward to eating some mushies. Week one is almost over. Everyone stay focused on a healthier you.:scared2:

Hi everyone, I also had my surgery 1/19 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with Dr Joya. I stayed in the hospital overnite also. I was on clear liq for 4 days and now have moved on the the full liquids. I guess I was lucky the only gas pains I had was with the need to burp. I found warm tea help relax everything enough that it either came up or pass on through. I am already down 9# since surgery.

Hello everyone,

Its been almost 4 weeks since the day we were all banded. Just curious how everyone is doing since surgury. I have lost 37 lbs since preop diet on January 5th and and 19lbs since day of surgury. All is well and dont even feel like I had anything done. I eat about 8 oz's of food 3 times a day and am currently at about 900 calories a day.

I'm doing OK - lost 16 lbs (according to my scale) since surgery, and that's with being out of town most of this week. I haven't really cheated on the diet (although I did have a little chocolate yesterday) but I've only been to the gym once. The thing that's getting me is port pain - it still stings when I exercise or do something that involves walking, such as shopping. Should I be concerned about this?

Well, I am down 19.5 pounds since I started... however, right now I think I'm in Bandster Hell... I am sooo hungry. Hopefully I get a fill Thursday when I see the surgeon... I have been eating high Protein high Fiber and nothing is doing the job (for long anyway)

other than that... I feel great.

I was keeping to 1000 calories a day until the past 2-3 days... I have hit 1200 just because I'm so hungry!:tongue2:

Hi all,

I just found this link. I have been searching for other Jan 09 banders and couldn't seem to find anything until today. Yeah!!!! I was banded on the 19th as well and I'm feeling good. I lost 12 pounds on the pre op diet and only 7 post surgery. I don't go for a fill until the 24th and I haven't lost any weight for about 2 weeks now. I'm playing with about 3 pounds going back and forth. I'm very hungry and feel like my appetite is pretty big, but not as big as before. I also haven't been very disciplined with my diet during the last few days (valentine weekend and all). I'm going to try to be good this week and maybe drop a pound or two before my fill. Otherwise, after fill, I hope to be on my way to good restriction. I love hearing how everyone else is doing. Is there a name for January banders??? I'd love to keep in touch with everyone. Is everyone eating normal food now??? Has anyone actually had their first fill and how are they doing with it????

how many times has everyone gone back to see their surgeons. I have only gone one time and that was for my fill in the second week of feb. are we only supposed to go back when we need a fill? My doctor never really talked to me about it, and at the time I never thought to ask

I have also only seen my surgeon one time since surgery. It was middle of Feb. My surgeon requires me to see him once a month. In Feb he did not fill me and said I currently had good weight loss. I see him again in two weeks and hopefully will get my first fill.

My weight loss is at a stand still right now... I am trying to up my exercise. My next visit is on the 24th but to be honest I think I need another fill now. But, I'm going to wait it out.

Wow! You all got fills early. I just got my first one yesterday. He took me up to 4.5 cc. I've been exercising and eating all the right things and I had kind of stalled on my weight loss this last week. I'm hoping this fill will kick start things again. I go back for my next fill end of April.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
