January 19th

Recommended Posts

Officially scheduled now and getting nervous... I've been on the pre-op liquid diet for 6 days now.

I'm just looking for others being banded on the 19th to be buddies with. Maybe chat during recovery on this site and emails.

I know there are others, I've seen you!

Let's do it!

I'm being banded on the 19th too! I had my pre-op visit with the surgeon yesterday and Monday is pre-op class and meeting with anesthesia.

Not too long now. I've been feeling weird. So many emotions. Excited, nervous, sometimes even a little depressed. I suppose that's normal though:unsure:

Hey HALO and other Jan 19 Hotties!!!!:tongue2:, how have you done on the preopt diet? It has been hard especially in the evening and this weekend when I am home near all the foooooood!

Where are you being banded?

Have you watched a procedure online at all? That made me not so nervous...it looks rather simple. poke, poke, poke, stitch, stitch, stitch and then 45 min. later you're done!!

What are the 19th bandsters most looking forward to after they lose the weight? Me personally, I would like to look good in the photo's this summer at my little boy's 5th birthday. I have always hated my photo's since I have gained the weight so I usually cut me out!

Look forward to sharing experiences with all of you!

I'm being banded in Noblesville, IN (Indianapolis) by Dr. Keith McEwen. From all I've heard and seen, the facility is wonderful and my staff is great. I am VERY nervous and scared. The pre-op diet is going ok. I am stressed for this upcoming Saturday. I have a motorcycle club meeting (6 of us pretty much). This is being done at the Cracker Barrel. OMG... I asked my husband if we could just leave after the meeting and he says he will eat and I just can't... what support? Guess I will sip on some Decaf coffee or tea. Too close to surgery date to CHEAT:mad:

The shakes are going ok. I have lost 11 lbs on my preop and I am so glad. I was really nervous last week but seem a little calmer this week. But I am sure the nervousness will come back later this week.

Are you just taking the 6 shakes aday? I am having a least 10 oz's of brooth aday and some sugar free Jello. They seem to help. We bought some sugar free fudgecicles yesterday and they take your mind off of it as well. I do limit myself to just 1 fudgecicle per day. Just think next Monday at this time we will both be banded.

Congrats on the weight loss... I haven't been that fortunate... for one, I gained 6 pounds over holidays and so I had to get off 11 (for my 2%) instead of 5! I did it though in two weeks with lots of sweat and pretty much starving then one week of my shakes.

I am more scared of this being another thing that I do and gain back my weight. I can't let that happen again.

I hope we get to meet Monday, maybe walk the hall or something together. Talk over a teaspoon of Water? ahahaha...

also, hope we can keep in touch the weeks after.

Are you planning on attending support group on the 5th?

I am going to try

Hey guys and gals! I don't really have a pre-op diet per say. I do Clear liquids for 3 days before surgery and that's it. It's definitely not too bad compared to what other people have to go through.

Does anyone else have to stay overnight in the hospital? I do. They do a barium swallow the next day and I'll go home late in the afternoon on Tuesday. Guess that's ok as I could use the rest (I have a 6 and 1.5 yr old) *LOL*

I'm taking a week off work. What about the rest of you?

I am staying the night as well since I have a 3 hour drive home, doc wanted me to stay. However is an outpatient facility, so, I believe I will be out in 23 hours. I have the whole week off too to relax. I'm hoping to do a lot of reading, posting and chating on here for questions and support...

you are TOO lucky with your preop diet... mine is horrible but, right now I'm numb to it and finally on the downside of the preop....

our day is fast approaching

:)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
